Donna Donna! Wanna be a dear? I know you'll be interested in this. I'm taking a government class, and we were just assigned an essay assignment. The topic is Presidential Power: does the president hold too much power, or is it necessary? I'm leaning towards too much power, but I need examples in history/ in current roles. The war is an obvious one, but any help you could give me would be greatly appriciated! You don't have to help if you'd rather not, but I thought you might like to ^.^ Thanks!
Our system of government is balanced between the three branches - but only the executive branch resides in one person. You could start there.
You might also go back to another democratic model for comparisons - the Swiss one comes to mind, with its three branches - but the executive branch has seven presidents in it. NO part of the government can be decided by one person. It makes the word "cooperation" take on a whole new meaning.
Look at how much Roosevelt was able to do - either one of them. See how much influence Nixon had, both good and bad. See how each President puts a stamp on a decade or so.
Help a friend?
