LOS ANGELES, June 3 -- A lifetime of touring, waking up in a different hotel
room nearly every morning, you'd think superstar BARRY MANILOW would know his
way around his own bedroom. After spending two weeks in Malibu, producing the
up-coming Rosemary Clooney tribute album for Bette Midler, Manilow returned to
his Palm Springs home. Awoken in mid-sleep, he found himself disoriented
(thinking he was still in Malibu) and walked into a wall breaking his nose.

"Too many hotels," says Manilow. "In the middle of the night, I veered to the
left instead of the right and slammed right into the wall." He passed out for
four hours. Laughing out loud, he offers, "At least I didn't pee in the
closet!"

The singer with the already large proboscis says, "I may have to have my nose
fixed and with this nose it's going to require major surgery!" He's all right
now, but he's got quite a bump. "My luck, I couldn't have broken my knee like
Liza?" Manilow jokingly asks, referring to his famous profile.

Manilow's health, voice and humor are intact, as he continues to work daily on
his up coming projects. The unstoppable workaholic, Manilow is committed to
finishing the mixing of both the Midler album and his own 2-disc live recording,
"Two Nights Live," as well as beginning rehearsals for the Manilow/Bruce Sussman
original stage musical, HARMONY, scheduled to open in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in
October with sights on Broadway for early '04. If and when he slows down - and
once the swelling is gone, he'll seek doctor's advice on surgery, but has no
intention of having a "nose job," to alter his looks.

"You should see the wall," says Manilow, laughing again.

I've heard some of the songs from HARMONY - Oh, Baby! But...no Florida for me. I'll wait until it gets to New York.

Also, I know where he lives. I grew up in that community out there - and I'd bet dollars to donuts he was seen at the hospital attached to the Betty Ford Center there in Rancho Mirage.

If you can't laugh at this, you're certifiably dead.

poor barry! :)

*Perk* New York? I'm close to New York. There's NEAT stuff in New York. Like the Met. I like the Met. A lot. You should come in the summer when the weather's nice so you can come up on top of it. That's spiffy. They've got the USS Something-or-other that I'm told is really neat. And they have the Natural History Museum. And there's the Statue of Liberty - I've only seen it from really far away, but it looked neat. And there was a cool comic book store that I may or may not be able to find again. And a cool place to eat called Jeckyll and Hyde - we're going there this summer, so I can tell you more. But I'm told by a friend with similar taste that it's very spiffy. They drive nuts there, though. And there's weird folks to be seen. And they have more taxis than I've seen even at the airport. OR if you come in September, you can come to the Neil Gaiman thing we're going to. Author talk followed by book signing. OH! And the Disney Store has a neat t-shirt that says "I (Mouse Ears) NY". It's cool. And there's a Starbucks every block. If I'm exaggerating on that, it's not by much. I was impressed. Circle K may dominate the corners in the West, but here, it's Starbuck's. Go fig.

*Pauses for breath*

New York is spiffy.

*laughs*

I have little doubt - 2004, they say. Weel, if we can squeeze that in after spending Jim's 40th in Japan next year, we'll do it!

That would just rock.
