bigbigtruck's entry. She's dead nuts on.
Sis' boy graduated from 8th grade - w00t, she's the mother of a high school student! Best part - he won the President's Award for academics, which was unexpected - but no surprise. Best part of the evening - sitting at Sis's feet drinking red wine and giving her a little pat on the calf with a "good job, Sis." That garnered me a strange look, but I added - "consider the history. Good job, Sis. He's not a delinquent or nothing - "
She did not carve me up and serve me in my own juices. There's hope.
(For the record, in the past three generations, we have had only two males who did NOT end up battling substance abuse and all the fun associated. One was my older brother - the second is this nephew of mine.
That's grandfather, father, younger brother, nephews, the works. It's clearly a sex-linked trait - the women are fine.)
Can't guarantee when I'll be back - taking down the computer at the hotel tonight - moving into the house tomorrow. With luck, I'll add a network card to the home machine and put it on the network and be up tomorrow afternoon.
