So un-pregnant.

Yup. With the only working toliet in the backyard. Behind a locked door. In the dark.

Yup, yup, yup.

Will have to go back and see how many days it was this time -

EDIT: 26 Days. If this is perimenopause, I'm Mickey Mouse.

(to the risk of getting too personal) That's why I'm on the pill. I never had stuff show up like clockwork, and I kinda like it.

The only really bad scare I've had since involved forgetting to take pills for a few days after being knocked out by pain pills after a surgery.

That's the only drawback I found: you have to be disciplined, or have someone else keep track for you. But at least I no longer look at the calendar and panic. =P

This is one thing I don't have to sweat much - since I'm a possible DES daughter, taking hormones as birth control isn't an option for me.

Lucky for me, everything works without them.

And at this point, being pregnant is in the plan and would be welcome. This is a good place to be, believe me!

Pregnancy is a welcome thing? I didn't know you two wanted kids. Hmmh... you should've come to our May Day celebration (SCA). They showed the rewards of the famous maypole at the event... allllll of them! Those infertile couples swore by it.

See a geneticist before making babies. A friend a DES male was born with no thumbs, his daughter was no thumbs and transposition of the greater heart vessels (what should go in was out so no oxygen getting to her, open heart surgery required at birth. DES has some bad results as you probably already know...

I say "possible" because the records are gone - Mom thinks she might have been given DES - but she also knows they switched to simple progesterone. When, she doesn't know.

Sis is almost a given; she has two tremendously healthy kids and had them at and after 30. I'd have to say I was likely carried with the help of added progesterone, which they give with patches these days.

There are other causes for the birth defects you mentioned which are far more heritable than environmental, unfortunately - a friend of the family who survived childhood cancer (and fell out of remission after she had twins) had a child with similar defects, heart-wise. They blamed the chemo - but realy, it's a crapshoot.

For me, I plan to have plenty of testing done - I'm one of those people who would term a pregnancy with significant chromosomal defects. That includes Down's, but it also includes trisomy-9 and trisomy-13 which are horrid, nasty, ugly things that aren't survivable outside the womb.

Ah, I guess I made a wrong assumption somewhere (you know, trying to have kids vs trying not to have kids for the time being).

Mine goes between 26 and 29 days most of the time. I may be in perimenopause, and I may not. I can at least get a handle on when it's going to happen. I have, I expect, at least another 15 years or so to go; after all, my maternal great-grandmother gave birth at 52, my paternal great-grandmother gave birth at 41, LOTS of women in my family have had children in their 40s, and my mother didn't hit menopause until her late 50s.

This is a good thing, too...at least, once Charles has the necessary surgery.

I haven't forgotten your offer and I will probably take you up on it.

Much the same way you got yours. *evil grin*

OK past 2 months 7 friends here in L.A. all with cycles off kilter ages 20,25,30,34,29,28,27 and I'm 40, I was thinking peri-menopause for myself but now I'm afraid of conspiracy (humor)... Only one is ever irregular.

Lock us all into close proximity for a couple of months and we'll all start cycling together - it's one of those mysterious wimmen things.

They think it has something to do with smell - if you work in an office with a lot of women, ask around - most of them will be on their period at the same time.

Thought this was totally whacked until I checked. All true!

Women give of pheromones in their breath and they change throughout the cycle. In very sensitive research testing situations it has been found that these pheromones can skew or even ruin some experiments.

Right now you're the same age my mother was when she got pregnant with Emma. She turned 43 a week and a half after the munchkin was born. From the time she started her period up till very recently she had a 26-29 day cycle. She'd thought she'd started menopause early, right up until she started getting queasy from the smell of dinner cooking and taking naps at all hours of the day. To quote my mother according to our family doctor "I'm what??????" It sounds like for the most part you about in the same boat health wise as she was so I'd say you and Jim have a fairly good chance of enjoying the joys of midnight feedings, endless rounds of "Whyyyy?", and random trips to the ER on Saturday to find out what s/he managed to stick up her/his nose. *grins* And just think...if you start your family now, your kids will have at least 5 year advantage on mine. *winks*

Could it be that you have a Magic Bathroom?

A friend of mine in high school had a Magic Bathroom, where more than one girl on more than one occasion exited, sighing with relief, and asking for a pad.

Either way, if a baby is in the Plan, good luck! You and Jim have so much love to give. I'm always so amazed (in a good way) by folks who really prepare themselves & make the decision to be parents.

Magic bathroom...now that's a concept to wrap my brain around. Oh, my.
