kyburg: (Christmas)
Okay, okay - you're broke. You also might be out of work, between jobs and need some new skills -

Or, you might just need the company.

Volunteer. Make a call, trade some time - if I'm any guess, they're just as hurting for funds as anyone else.

See you tomorrow!

Got on the 405 going north today - running late, it's Monday - and I was nearly alone, except for the guy getting on ahead of me.

Guys. This is the 4-oh-freaking-FIVE - and there's nobody there. For a moment there, I thought I might have interrupted a shoot - then looked in the rear view mirror.

Solid flashing red. OH HELL.

Yup, they'd closed the freeway down...BEHIND ME.

I then looked at the spedometer and backed off - I was doing nearly 90. On the 405, Monday morning, during rush hour. Will NEVER happen again.

I got to work inside of fifteen minutes. My current commute music is [livejournal.com profile] vixyish and [livejournal.com profile] tfabris's 'Thirteen,' with me jumping through the setlist like a impatient ferrett - but I usually manage to get through the entire album, minus a track or two. 'Siren Song' is one I MUST play - I am going to work after all, and misery loves company - but that's about all I managed to get in before pulling in the driveway.

To all the folks inconvenienced - and I really hope nobody died in that crash right behind me - thank you very much for a wonderful drive to work this morning. No, really. It IS the little things - and I am noticing.

In other work-related news, the old gig is advertising for my position again. No, I haven't turned off the email alerts for stuff in my specialty - too many of my contemporaries are out there looking, and I've had uncommon good luck, so - but this is getting on this side of creepy. It's very nichy, what I do. A few keywords and I have the whole market within a moment or two in a search, and even then there's stuff I don't qualify for (no SAP, no Mercator...you got that in addition to EDI, TLE and so on? Nestle wants. You wants Nestle. No, really - you do. I don't have all of that - do you?) - I'm grateful, and relieved and a whole lotta things right now that I have the gig I've got.

And Christmas here, baby? Whole different ball of wax from old gig. Two Christmas parties, and a Secret Santa - I can deal. I'm also not frantic and terrified of missing something in the rush to glory. (Glory, she says. FEH.)

Looks like I'll have the day after Christmas off - and likely the 3rd as well. I am so looking forward to ramen.

Onward with Monday - now in progress.
