can we stop shipping real people. can we like not do that anymore ever

Um…why?

Because real people are not characters. These people are complete strangers to us, and not all of them appreciate strange kids (and even adults) invading their private lives to get the newest scoop on who they’re dating or drawing explicit hardcore porn of them and their partner/friend without taking their feelings into consideration.

Unless someone has explicitly stated that they don’t mind being shipped/have fanart made of them in a romantic or sexual fashion, don’t do it. It’s creepy.

I’ve seen a lot of YouTube stars have to come out and ask people to stop the massive shipping campaigns for them because it made them/ their partners uncomfortable.

You wouldn’t do it to a stranger on the street, don’t do it to a stranger behind a computer screen.

Please.  This, and this and this again.  Don’t fictionalize real people.  It’s just not anything you want to be a part of.  Please.

Summary:

It’s four months after the Battle of New York, and rebuilding the city continues. The Tower is being remodeled, Bruce Banner remains in residence there, along with Steve Rogers as well as long-term visitors Clint Barton and Natasha Romanov. Upstate, Stark Industries splits Tony Stark’s time between while Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan resume their lives, just now with SHIELD and Avengers taking up some of the clock cycles.

Until a ciphered journal turns up in the rubble near the Tower. Two alphas working for SHIELD also claim Tony Stark is an omega, where any meta-gender is rare, but omegas doubly so. Trouble is - they already know he isn’t.

The truth is harder to believe than the lie.

Throw down a few words for this year’s Avengers Fest - 5K yuk yuk yuk joke, done and over - sure!

Then I saw down to write it.  Two weeks out from the deadline.

There’s at least 10K in worldbuilding notes in Evernote too.  It has a tiny soundtrack playlist.

Happy Hogan has a BIG mouth.  And he would not stop talking.

It could be three times as long.  And yeah, there are places that need more meat on the bones.

But what do you think?

John Legend Has Some Profund Thoughts On Colin Kaepernick Backlash:
allerasphinx:

thechanelmuse:

“I think it’s great [what Colin Kaepernick is doing]. I don’t understand why people are upset. But I do understand, actually. They’re always upset when you protest these things. People only like it in retrospect. Dr. King was unpopular while he was alive—he’s only popular now because he’s dead and not a threat to anyone. But he was a threat to the status quo back then and the people—the so-called ‘moderates’—used to say, ‘Well, we’re with you, but you gotta be more patient. We’re with you, but you shouldn’t protest like this. We’re with you, Muhammad Ali, but you should respect America and go fight in Vietnam, even though you find it morally deplorable to do that.’

They’ll police your protest more than the things you’re protesting against, which is the real [source of] oppression. I feel like people are doing the same thing with Kaepernick. The reality is he’s protesting black men and women—people of color—getting shot by police when they’re unarmed, and those police facing no consequences. Just think how tragic that is for a society: that the state can kill you with no repercussions. We see it on video—we know the person is unarmed, poses no threat—and they’re killed with no repercussions. Think about how corrosive that is for a society if we allow that to continue to happen? You’re upset that he’s kneeling down in peaceful protest, but you’re not upset by what he’s protesting against?”

before he sells the beans to jack, he is born in a house that smells of ceder.

his name is Tiffany. a bold bright name. a stardust name. a girl name. but he is not a girl. he knows this, even if others don’t. his mother puts him in dresses, teaches him how to sew, chastises him when he lets his voice get low.

“my great-aunt’s friend’s sister,” says his mother, with her red lips tight, “once knew these girls that spoke and diamonds came out of their mouths. you know what happened to the nasty one? she got toads. that’s your future if you don’t figure out how to be a nice little girl.”

so he speaks gently. but the whole time he is wondering: who gave them the language of gems. who gave them the language that rolled out of them. it must be magic. and if there is magic, maybe there is hope for him.

he takes off in a dark night. a sad night. one where the fire was too low and he was sick of mirrors. he leaves his mother a note: gone to find where the gems grow.

in the black woods, he cuts off his hair. wears his father’s clothes. feels, at last, whole. runs and runs and runs until his air comes out in a wheeze. walks for weeks and weeks.

he finds the old woman carrying water. she is ugly, her mouth all twisted angry. but she carries the water alone.

the boy does not have much. but he has shoulders. a good back. hands that work. when he takes her burden, she says, “thank you, young man.” and he smiles at her, but doesn’t say anything.

her house is damp. she feeds him stew, apologizes. says she used to make lovely foods but the price of milk and eggs got far too high. she says: if you carry my water for five weeks, i will give you something special. and he agrees.

she talks for him. spends a lot of time telling him of people he never met. girls with lips blood red. girls with white fairy dresses. boys who fell in love with swans.

the boy says little. just nods. sleeps on the floor of her empty barn. when she’s not looking, he darns her clothes for her, keeps the floors swept, fills the lanterns with oil, makes her a blanket for the coming winter.

on the end of the fifth week, she gives him the beans. tells him that they have been passed down in her family, that this was her portion. she says that she is too old now for such adventures. that she hears the beans will bring treasure. fortune. all the things of greed. she says: i will give them to you, for what you have done to me.

in the morning, he takes off. he feels the weight of them in his pocket. he thinks of the old woman and the stories and the sight of her tired hands. he stands in the market for a long time, unspeaking, simply staring at the cobblestones beneath him.

jack’s voice is the last call in the evening. a beautiful cow, young and thick and healthy.

the boy has no money. he bounces the magic bean in his pocket, and thinks of treasures.

“wait,” he says.

jack turns.

transaction complete: one cow for a handful of magic beans. the boy walks the cow home to the old woman, gets there in the morning. they are both very tired. he falls asleep beside the beast in the hay. dreams of the foods the old woman can cook now that she can get milk.

when he wakes up, he is changed. it is as if he simply turned into who he was made to be. not a new body. familiar. the body he could always see.

the old woman stands at the door of his barn. she says, “good morning,” and then she says a new word. a word he’s never heard. a name. his name. a boy name.

he repeats it. it is a jewel in his mouth, so he says it again. another diamond.

“time to fetch water,” she says, winking. the whole way, he whispers his name. it never quite tastes the same, always beautiful, always a fine thing, always his. the something special he was lacking.

in the back of his pocket, there is one last magic bean. he will fetch the water and plant it. and he will carry that old woman to the castles she has never seen.

Holy shit.

Richard Sherman Wants To Talk About Police Shootings, Not The Game

Richard Sherman took the stage to let the reporters and the world know his thoughts on peaceful protests by people who are kneeling during the National Anthem. He refused to answer any questions and  used the forum to address recent fatal police shootings of black men in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and in Charlotte, North Carolina, and to talk about the importance of the national anthem protests against police violence led by the 49ers’ Colin Kaepernick and other NFL athletes.

This is what everyone needs to understand. It is an act to bring awareness to the social issues and to start doing something about it. People are dying in the streets from the hands of the police officers and there is nothing done about it. This problem is not even acknowledged by the society. This has to stop.

thememoryexchange:

Let us begin.

It is September 24th, 2016.

Today, the Memory Exchange is just off the road, among a thick stand of tall, slender shortleaf pines and great, spreading oaks.  The late afternoon sun angles through the trunks in sweeping rays that paint everything in shades of gold.  Beneath your feet, the packed dirt of the trail is scattered with leaves and needles and stray acorns.  The almost-cool air smells of pine and warm earth, and tastes clean.  The stillness all around you is green and deep.

The Exchange is a simple stall – wooden slats and a red canvas awning, and a long table covered in a hodgepodge of baskets and boxes.  Wind chimes at the corners of the stall jingle softly.

To the right is a grassy area dappled by shade.  It is watched by a small goblin that looks a great deal like a fluffy black cat.  Things left here are guarded until reclaimed.  They will harm no-one.

Today’s Keeper is a short, round person with pale skin and short brown hair.  They have a pleasant face and soft hands, and are wearing battered jeans that don’t quite fit and a black shirt that says My Story Is Not Done.  This is the Proprietor.

Come on over!  There aren’t many memories to take yet, but if you have anything beautiful to leave, we’ll be glad to have it.  And if you need to set something heavy down for a while, my assistant there will be glad to watch it until you can carry it again.  While it’s with her, it can’t cause too much trouble.

You step nearer.  The sun is warm on your back.  You peer into the baskets.  Some are full of nothing but hope, and some … some hold things that glitter or shine or glow.

Will you take a memory?

Will you leave a memory?

After over 12,000 notes on this post, I think it is obvious this tumblr is badly needed.

There are so many terrible things in our lives.  The memories are heavy, and sometimes they are hard to escape.

Put yours down for a time, and hold another, brighter memory.  Take it to be yours, carry it near or far, for as long or as little as you wish to carry it.

The Exchange cannot take painful memories away forever, but you may set them down for a while and take another beautiful memory with you any time you like.

You are always welcome here.

I’m a bit nervous, but after two days of working on it, it is time to open up the exchange!

Please come and join, share your memories.  They are so, so needed.

Those of you who shared memories in replies to the original entry, please come and submit those memories here too!

To submit anonymously, you can use asks!
