Icon Madness
Jul. 23rd, 2003 06:00 pmI am a great stealer of creative talent! I STOLE AN ICON!
Good grief. No, I didn't.
But I'm a good sport - so I took the icon down, made a minor change and put it right back up.
Now, it's MY icon that I worked five minutes on.
And for the record, here is the reply I gave:
Myyyyyy goodness. You know, I am just as certain you have spent more time complaining about an imagined slight that you did making the icon in question.
Did you make this one as well?

They were put into service the same time.
Tell you what. I'll just make one tiny change to the icon - and they won't look identical anymore. I'll know I made the change, you'll know you made the change - and when.
I think I've made a good faith effort to allay your concerns. Keep in mind I don't have any proof that you really did what you have claimed to have done - or if two icon makers came up with the same exact thing. It's not a very complicated piece of work - frankly, as far as icons go, rather simple and pedestrian.
I do know that I don't have the artwork anywhere I can check timestamps. Or bit counts. Or whatever. It's been in use a long time. At least a year.
You must really need someone to hate. Bad.
Now go away.
No, I don't intend to dignify this with any further effort.
For the record, I don't truly remember where the icon came from - it's been long enough ago. Most of my icons were given to me - or I made them myself.
I have other things to do now.

2) Stop moping about the perceived "theft" of art that isn't even hers to begin with. Fanart I'll concede, but scans of Takahashi artwork? Come on. Like that takes ANY creative work to speak of.
3) Learn how to spell. Only one "r" in girl, folks!
4) If she wants to be so protective of "her" icons, she shouldn't post them publicly. Besides, if someone happens to use the same crop job on the same picture, well, tough cookies. There's no prize for finding an anime or manga picture first -- again, the art's not yours.
5) Most importantly, she needs to get a life.
I swear, some of these fangirls have no respect and don't know when to leave people alone.

Date: 2003-07-24 01:59 am (UTC)You know, I dont even consider icons "art" per se. They are snippets of art at best even when tatken en toto. They are scaled down so much that they are not really the full work if you wanted to do a one-for-one pixel count. I was told in art school that to change a work enough to claim it was yours, you had to change it approximately 10%... whatever that meant. Very open to interpretation and intentionally so. So, if you only use 10% of my pixels by reducing the size and losing detail... you get my point? So the question I have to ask dorks like this is:
1. You consider THAT art??
2. Did you copyright or trademark it?
3. Can you prove it is yours?
If not then, one artist to... well, them Shadthefuckup whiney little self-professed wannabe artisté! *Plllbbbttt!*
Go you, Kybyrg! *woof woof woof*
