wow, it's so much cheaper to live in Los Angeles than the Bay Area! If there's a one-bedroom in this town to be had for under $900, I'll eat the lease.

This is one very good reason why I left California when I did. I'm not at all shocked; San Francisco and Silicon Valley can be much more expensive.

Seattle can be pricy, too, but not like *that*. Outside Seattle, well, it depends on where you are...

2300 ft2 hand-built house, large steel barn/garage, 5 acres, orchard, woods, gorgeous view of Mount Rainier, pond, 3 pastures, my own private well, undeveloped land on 3 sides (and it's staying that way)...10 minutes to the Seattle ferry, 5 minutes from town, and *peaceful*. $199,950 3 years ago. Of course, I am about an hour from downtown Seattle any way you go.
