My dear, silver-haired Mother, born April 21, 1924 - has her own computer and email address for the first time in her life.

She is so cute it hurts.

I get a phone call from her yesterday to get an email address from me - so I send her a test from one of my web-based accounts - I receive an answer back this morning:

received your message.. this could be cool if i knew what i was doing but suffice to say i am completing the circle... i feel like alexander graham bell..

My mother knows how to type. And use proper title case.

When she starts speaking l33t, I will ph33r. She'll think it's cool.

My darling grandmother (who may share a birth year with your mom, a fact I find quite amusing) has had email for just this past year. She is continually flummoxed by it. She has mastered "reply all," but maintains it is impossible to send an email without first receiving one. She is waiting for my mother to come visit her and show her how to access some links I sent her last month.

I temper my amusement with the sneaking feeling that my son will one day be explaining some newfangled technology to me that will frustrate and befuddle me.

My mother sends emails and she really likes exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless she's asking a question???????????? unless she really wants to know and then it's both!!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

I taught mom how to use the internet a year or two ago... maybe three? She wanted to email my sister, who lives in Toronto. I taught her how to look up websites, too, and got her using Google. A few months ago she reported that she went and looked at Ebay. I asked her if she bought anything, and she replied that no, she just wanted to see it since it was mentioned so often. I am so proud it almost hurts when stuff like this happens. :) Maybe that's a side effect of being the one to teach someone; you get really proud of their accomplishments in that area.
