My Mom's Cuter than Your Mom
Aug. 8th, 2003 11:59 amMy dear, silver-haired Mother, born April 21, 1924 - has her own computer and email address for the first time in her life.
She is so cute it hurts.
I get a phone call from her yesterday to get an email address from me - so I send her a test from one of my web-based accounts - I receive an answer back this morning:
received your message.. this could be cool if i knew what i was doing but suffice to say i am completing the circle... i feel like alexander graham bell..
My mother knows how to type. And use proper title case.
When she starts speaking l33t, I will ph33r. She'll think it's cool.

Date: 2003-08-08 05:06 pm (UTC)I taught mom how to use the internet a year or two ago... maybe three? She wanted to email my sister, who lives in Toronto. I taught her how to look up websites, too, and got her using Google. A few months ago she reported that she went and looked at Ebay. I asked her if she bought anything, and she replied that no, she just wanted to see it since it was mentioned so often. I am so proud it almost hurts when stuff like this happens. :) Maybe that's a side effect of being the one to teach someone; you get really proud of their accomplishments in that area.
