Mom's appointment was at 9:15, but I haven't heard anything yet.

The little research I did wasn't encouraging, though. If I read what Mom told me correctly, she's had a "wet" macular degeneration episode, which while it has a treatment to prevent it from getting worse, there is little hope of regaining what was lost - and is often sudden, abrupt and without much warning. It also only occurs in 10% of macular degen cases - and her sister has the more common, "dry" version.

Mom's case more closely resembles diabetic retinopathy, which sends new blood vessels into the center of the eye looking for more oxygen - in the wet macular degen case, these extra blood vessels go behind the eye, hemmorrage and disort the back of the retina. The most vital part, the macular. Feh on all of it.

They suggest a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is the best defense - Mom's been off fresh anything for years due to lower GI issues.

Crap.

Waiting to hear from her. Hopefully, they'll look at both eyes and prevent anything from happening to the other one.
