My apologies to [livejournal.com profile] snackpants. I know we won't see eye-to-eye on this. However, this post was concerning enough for me to respond - rather verbosely, I fear.

*chuckle* On the Bring Back Kirk List...
Well since there isnt a chance in hell Shatner will return as Kirk... conversation has really gotten weird...

THOUGHT YOU MIGHT ENJOY THIS "CLARIFICATION."

by DENNIS MILLER

ALL THE RHETORIC ON WHETHER OR NOT WE SHOULD GO TO WAR AGAINST IRAQ HAS GOT MY INSANE LITTLE BRAIN SPINNING LIKE A
ROULETTE WHEEL. I ENJOY READING OPINIONS FROM BOTH SIDES BUT I HAVE DETECTED A HINT OF CONFUSION FROM SOME OF YOU.

AS I WAS READING THE PAPER RECENTLY, I WAS REMINDED OF THE BEST ADVICE SOMEONE EVER GAVE ME. HE TOLD ME ABOUT THE KISS
METHOD ("KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID)! SO, WITH THIS AS A THEME, I'D LIKE TO APPLY THIS THEORY FOR THOSE WHO DON'T QUITE GET IT. MY HOPE IS THAT WE CAN SIMPLIFY THINGS A BIT AND RECOGNIZE A FEW IMPORTANT
FACTS.

HERE ARE 10 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN VOICING AN OPINION ON THIS
IMPORTANT ISSUE:

1) BETWEEN PRESIDENT BUSH AND SADDAM HUSSEIN ... HUSSEIN IS THE BAD GUY.

2) IF YOU HAVE FAITH IN THE UNITED NATIONS TO DO THE RIGHT THING KEEP THIS IN MIND, THEY HAVE LIBYA HEADING THE COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND IRAQ HEADING THE GLOBAL DISARMAMENT COMMITTEE. DO
YOUR OWN MATH HERE

3) IF YOU USE GOOGLE SEARCH AND TYPE IN "FRENCH MILITARY VICTORIES," YOUR REPLY WILL BE "DID YOU MEAN FRENCH MILITARY
DEFEATS?"

4) IF YOUR ONLY ANTI-WAR SLOGAN IS "NO WAR FOR OIL," SUE YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR ALLOWING YOU TO SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS
AND ROBBING YOU OF THE EDUCATION YOU DESERVE.

5) SADDAM AND BIN LADEN WILL NOT SEEK UNITED NATIONS APPROVAL BEFORE THEY TRY TO KILL US.

6) DESPITE COMMON BELIEF, MARTIN SHEEN IS NOT THE PRESIDENT. HE PLAYS ONE ON T.V.

7) EVEN IF YOU ARE ANTI-WAR, YOU ARE STILL AN "INFIDEL!" AND BIN LADEN WANTS YOU DEAD, TOO.

8) IF YOU BELIEVE IN A "VAST RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY" BUT NOT IN THE
DANGER THAT HUSSEIN POSES, QUIT HANGING OUT WITH THE DELL
COMPUTER DUDE.

9) WE ARE NOT TRYING TO LIBERATE THEM.

10) WHETHER YOU ARE FOR MILITARY ACTION OR AGAINST IT, OUR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN OVERSEAS ARE FIGHTING FOR US TO DEFEND
OUR RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT. WE ALL NEED TO SUPPORT THEM WITHOUT RESERVATION.

My ghad, quit shouting. It also looks like the writer skipped class and took lessons from Rush Limbaugh as well. Hmm. Maybe stole it wholesale.

Dennis Miller. Right. Get a job of your own, moron.

I gotta rebut. Sorry, but I gotta.

1) I wonder. Not in the same class, (gimme a break) but I wonder.
2) The United Nations has always had an advisory role (gee, I knew that back in the 60's) - I don't know anyone who ever got UN approval for a war before. The whole idea was kinda whack, in my opinion.
3) *sigh* That again? If the French don't want to invade another country, I can't blame them. They have a long history of being invaded themselves. They also have a long history of invading other countries, making huge messes and finding out it wasn't worth it. So they've stopped doing it, at least in this example? We inherited Vietnam from these guys - when they decided it wasn't winnable. Gee, it took us almost 20 years to come to that conclusion ourselves. I really ought to see how old you are - not only do I remember the war reports, the war protests and the like...I also remember the POW bracelets that hung around decades after 1975, the incredibly bad economy we suffered through paying for that exercise until Clinton came into office (yeah, all through four presidencies, no matter if R or D) - and we finally paid it off - the huge dependency our economy had on defense dollars (and what happened when it dried up after the last Gulf War) - no, I wouldn't be in a big hurry to vote in favor of invading another country, if I were the French. We got a little taste of that in Vietnam. Their history is littered with it. Do I agree with them? Does the fact I question the assumption imply such? Come on...I can think for myself. Can you?
4) My anti-war slogan usually boils down to two spread fingers. I really don't care what people think this is over - but if we make Iraq the 51st state in every way except name, you might remember this. We got the oil and all of the business rights in Iraq, didn't we?
5) See #2. D'oh.
6) Tell that to Ronald Reagan. The best "acting" President ever.
7) Uh, Bin Laden hates Saddam as much as we do. Honest. Trust me on this. His government is secular and not based in Islamic law, which is what old Osama wants for all of us. Of course, Osama thinks he can interpret those doctrines to that purpose - even though they clearly state that the last person who could legitimately do so was the prophet Mohammad...nutballs, the both of them.
8) I believe in both, and the Dell guy was caught smoking dope - ya think I listen to any of them?
9) Really? Then what is this all about? Oh yeah. #4. Gotcha. *winks*
10) And make sure they receive the rights promised to veterans. All the ones this administration has denied, will deny and works to eliminate daily. A "grateful nation" should at least mean something more than lip service. Like medical care for long-term effects military service creates - at a level even JCAHO finds acceptable. That's for starters. Oh, no - my support for them is without reservation...it's the administration that seems to have reservations with regard to veterans.

We are over here fighting for our right to speak out.

As I said, I'll deal with what comes. I don't have to like it.
