kyburgI made popcorn tonight. The good, old-fashioned way with the dollup of oil in the bottom of the big-ass pot, throw some popcorn kernels in, put the lid on, apply heat and make a racket shaking the damn thing.
Perfect, every time. I've had decades of practice.
My software glitch is now the primary task for the development team to remedy. I was only the first case to come in - I preen silently at how on top of things we are. It's what We're Good At. Fucking lot of help it is. I also take comfort from the fact that the boss hasn't stepped in once to get people moving on my behalf. I've managed to keep them jumping just fine without the Big Man coming in to save little old me. He would, if he thought he could be of any assistance. Without saying a word to me about not getting the job done - that's also what we're good at. We don't waste time fixing blame when we need to fix the problem first.
"You can keep working with them on it," was all he's said. It's coming back from other parts now - other customers who have the same software also share VANs with us - and they talk. Everyone is fucked. I was only the first.
I am so tired. Grep, vi, repeat. Over and over. Trained apes could do this. I have repetitive motion injury of the frontal lobe. Picky ass stuff - who cares that an IEA segment is writing before its ISA?
I was just telling a friend that if I was handed a Bristol board and markers, I'd use them to write a to-do list. That's where my brain is - frantically trying to keep on top of it all. None of it live-or-die - by themselves. But they add up - and multiply like tribbles when I'm not watching them.
Clues to a bigger evil.
I want to sit down and think straight for three days at least. About something other than work or bills or what hasn't been unpacked yet.
I am going to go play Pokemon Pinball now. I have earned it and nobody is going to keep me from it. Something totally mindless. I hope.
