Girl Scout cookies are $4 a box this year.

No.

I dunno, but it must be pretty expensive to need $4 a box to help finance it.

Maybe it's the moms.

More importantly -- is whatever they're smoking also included in the cookies?

Wow.

I think what I'd do would be buy a box just because I'd want them, and make a donation right to the troop itself. They they actually get to profit from the sale...

But then again I was in scouts for far too long, so I'm more sympathetic ;)

I think I'll just buy some Edy's Girl Scout Cookie ice cream when I get back to the US in July...$4/box?! Hot damn.

They're only $3.50 here. I don't stress the "only", because still: DAMN.

Oh shit.

I just ordered four boxes from my boss's kid without bothering to spot the price.

My mother is the head person for Cookies for the entire San Gabriel valley (basically). The problem is that the Girl Scouts are not getting the financal support they once got. The government also has new rules in place that only a percentage of fundraisers can even be done by the girls any more. That the parents have do about 50% of the fundraising.

This is causing there to be alot less girls in girl scouting, because the parents don't want to do the fund raising. The cookie bakers raise their prices and the girlscouts get little choice in the matter, because it's their number one girl based fund raiser.

Oh the politics behind scouts...I could go on forever. I was a scout for 12 years all the way through highschool. Ended up getting go to England with my troop one year. I'm still a registered Girl Scout even. (Because darn my registration money helps out a little.) Anyways...

Cats do that. It's part of the reason they are cats and not, oh, say, marmosets. My kitten will try and catch the peep hole in our front door. It doesn't move, it's just there, but he feels like he should try and catch it. Cat logic.

Ha! I love your icon.

I know cats do that.. it just startled me. :) It cracks me up when one of mine gets that bug-eyed hyper look and makes the jump to light speed across the living room, making carpet-y velcro noises all the way.

because of the grocery strike they're not selling cookies in front of stores - which is where they usually sell the most cookies. so they have to charge more to make maybe half of what they did last year.

I don't believe that for a minute. Although I knew about the lack of saleage at striking markets.

No, I expect to see them at the farmer's market this weekend - and I will be very nice, ask which council they're from and go home. Write a very nice check, and send it directly to the council. I've had it.

No chocolate crack for me, this year. I sold them myself when they were a buck a box. And that was better than most of the store-bought brands.

I made my first class in cadets, which is the closest thing to an Eagle the girl scouts offers. I was also a camp counselor for Azalea Trails in 1980 -

Too much. I tell you. I think they were $3 last year -

$3.50 here. They were the same last year, but I heard that they were $4 in places last year. For me, it's getting cookies + donating to GSUSA. Were there no cookies, I'd still donate. I once (when I had it to spare) stopped in Davis to pick something up at a market, and paid $20 for a couple of boxes of cookies out front, because that council supports Camp Menzies, an amazing, rustic GS camp in the Sierra that was one of the best parts of my adolescence.

I so don't need the extra calories and I can write a check so much easier.

Now that I've moved, I really should see if they need leaders around here. I would have gone all the way through the program if I'd had some when I was growing up.

$3 a box here - good thing too, as I have lots of nieces selling the things that I am obligated to buy!
