"Do you color your hair?"

No.

I doubt seriously it would look the same again if I did. Ostensibly, I'm a natural blonde - but I have strands of just about every color on my head. I've been looking for silver lately - still haven't seen any - and I've got strands very close to white, and everything inbetween to very close to black.

This morning, I found a couple of strands that were the most bitching shade of auburn...I have grandparents with curly black hair and straight RED hair - this much is known, but not much else. My blonde brothers have vivid red beards, too.

So I've got a little bit from everyone.

I prefer redheads, but I've married blondes each time. I won't be a lemming and color mine red, though. Yes, lemming. Deal with it.

Maybe I just need to have a chat with those auburn strands I found this morning -

I'm not a lemming, and I've been coloring mine red for most of the past 20 years, because *I* want to. It's been done over family protest, including that of my late husband. I want it red, so red it is.

It helps that I have the complexion to get away with it. :-)

I love your new icon - but I still think you had the best photo icon on LJ - you are adorable with flowers in your hair!

Awwww. Thanks!

I stopped using that icon because it was from my handfasting with Bob, at our 10th anniversary. I didn't wear flowers in my hair at our wedding on Saturday, but I probably will (Cecile Brunner roses) for our big celebration in August.

Mmmm... I find it ironic that while I love redheads, I've usually only been interested in those with brown or black hair. Of course to top the irony off, I've not only had people ask me what dye I use to get my hair the shade of red it is (sort of a fiery red-gold colour, I think the reason they ask is because my eyebrows have been sunbleached to an almost clear blonde) but they've also wanted to CURL my hair! I grew it out to STOP the curling! Folks, get a clue! I am NOT Shirley Temple!

If I'm a lemming I'm leading the pack

Started out a brunette (mom's got the pictures), by the end of my first summer my hair was so blonde it was white. It stayed that way for about 5 years when it slowly became strawberry blonde. Puberty hit and my hair turned light brown. Light brown hair with palest white skin is not an attractive combination, really it's not. I look sallow. I dyed my hair for the first time right before I turned 17 (mostly to annoy my mom); and lo, for the first time in 8 years I my skin and my hair matched! I've been dying it ever since.

But I do tend to notice that I'm about 4 years a head of everyone else's style with hair.

Yeah, Mom likes to tell people the same thing - born with black hair, it all fell out and came in white.

I used to stand in the shower with a headfull of lemon juice for half an hour at a stretch to bring out any highlights when I was a teenager. It's gotten both thicker and richer in color as I've gotten older - weird.

I dunno - I think Emma looks pretty chipper, myself.

At least you chose a shade that looks normal, hon. *winks*

Em has something I don't have much of...skin pigment. Even in the winter she's naturally about 4 or 5 shades darker than I am. Her daddy also has dark brown hair and tans as do both her older brothers. I just burn to a crisp, peel, and remain shockingly pale I just get some light pink highlights for a while.

For me, that's the whole point. I'm trying to get my uncoopertive hair to match my skin.

Eh. My natural hair color is grayish dishwater, so I'm damned well dyeing it. I dyed it brown at first, tried a "reddish brown" which turned out to be more of an auburn, and have been stuck ever since. These days my hair is usually auburn or burgundyish-brown rather than "true red", but it's a variable. My darling keeps looking pitiful and suggesting I go for bright flamey orangey red, but he knows it doesn't flatter me as much. Then again, even though he really doesn't try, and claim he has no redhead fetish, the last half-dozen women he's done more than flirt with have all been redheads - and not all of them out of a bottle, either.

I envy people with nice natural hair color sometimes, but I'd probably at least temporary-dye mine just so I didn't get bored. I also have a weakness for silver-pale-blonde, but it looks terrible on me even in a wig, and I don't think I could bleach my hair that light.

Heh

I don't color mine either. I'm always threatening to dye it a purple or green shade, but have never followed through.

Perhaps when I've got more silver than brown atop my head (I've only got a dozen of the former type, so far). =P

Does it count when you're a natural redhead who dyes to try different shades? *wink*
