It's a good day for linkage -
Oct. 15th, 2004 02:22 pmTen weeks undercover in the grass roots of the Republican Party (I'm going to put the whole text in a private post for safekeeping - you can't read the story, let me know and I'll share...) It's the Rolling Stones. Bias much? But the story is good - and pings true. There's nothing wrong with being conservative - matter of fact, I really wish there was someone worthy of all the loyalty running for office, that these folks would identify as "safe." Bush is not that guy.
I've done the post on defining "conservative." It bears little resemblance to conventional usage as both a noun and an adjective currently. Frankly, the one thing I've agreed with Michael Moore on is that Clinton was the best Republican president in recent memory -
Kerry is just about the same. It's the labels people are having trouble with. "It says BLAH on it. Run away!"
With the Identity Kit series shown here, I have attempted to portray the gross poverty of the dispossessed by inviting some of the homeless men on London's streets to display their belongings - those carried in their pockets, or in a bag. One of the interesting points I have to mention is that in nearly every circumstance in this story, either a lighter and a pack of cigarettes or the necessary materials for drug use is present. When there is no hope - there is always dope. You heard about Fresno, right?
I estimate one person in thirty, male or female, is a serial bully. Who does the following profile describe in your life? It's not always you, or your fault. And as I was telling
caitlin the other day, some things are truly universal.
Mom wants to go see her sister next week, barring any reasons she can't travel -
Sis wants Mom to have private-duty nurses at home after surgery -
My niece still can't remember how someone hit her while she was on her way to work, needs financial help (and a new job) and -
I'm going to give up on getting to Switzerland this year. There's just no way.
Spring, next year. At the earliest.
And I'm going to have Christmas done by Halloween. Nearly done. By my birthday, we should be in the middle of Mom's surgery or recovery, a new set of foster-parent classes and who knows what else.
Better get some rest now.
