This will hurt you. But you won't mind at all - (thanks EK!)

I'm looking at the photos coming out of San Francisco, and the only thing I can come up with is Dayim, they've got the clothes and everything put together - on how much notice? And that's after standing in line for how many hours?

I'm a big believer in marriage - I can tell you, I was not nearly as interested in the getting married as the being married. I wanted to get through that part as fast as I could and get to the imporant part. Life. Day in, day out, pay the bills and make plans for the future part.

Knowing I had a partner I could trust with my life because it was cherished above all things. Not for some passing fancy - down to my very spirit, instead.

Jim was never a "boyfriend" because, well, he was never just a boy as far as I was concerned. He was my fella, and a good one. But there were some things just felt unfinished. Like a really bad itch you couldn't reach. This is it - this is my One, and let's get the formalities over with, shall we?

I can't imagine how it must feel to be told you can't go any further - not for you. Nope. Not allowed. Fergit it.

I'm already married; going up there and standing in line just to do it again in the midst of all this would be selfish.

But something tells me I would be in some of the best company I could have. You want dedication - there it is.

Ready, willing - and now - able.

For as long as it lasts.

There are people who spent lots and lots of dollars (and other currencies, too) for last-minute, high-priced airfare, to get here to get married.

One woman said something like, "I don't care if it's overturned; for one weekend, I was married, really married -- and it's worth it."

I wish I could do the same. :)

Just not my time yet, though I'd love to be able to support them.

You're absolutely right. Getting married is a huge pain in the ass, while being married isn't all hearts and roses, but it's substantially more fun than the former.

I have read your commentary several times and I do not understand what it is that you are trying to communicate.

Regardless of societal sanction, any two or more people are free to plight their respective troths and act accordingly.

1. So what is your point?

2. What does being married mean to you and why is it important?

Understand, I have no idea what is going on in San Francisco. I am only concerned with trying to understand your commentary.

It's something I have trouble defining myself - what is the difference between being married and not, when involved in a commmitted relationship?

The only thing I can say is that after two marriages (after LWS first), there is a difference....

And all those people getting married in San Francisco knew that difference as well.

As far as why - I guess it has to do more with your personal perspective on the idea.

It truly is an amazing thing that SF is doing, even if it is temporary and short-lived. The cracks have started to form, and no matter how much time is needed, their actions will lead to a better society in the end.

I am married to my best friend, and have been for over ten years now. I can't imagine what my life would be like without her, and I find it more and more disturbing that we as a people are depriving others of that feeling.
