Last night, Jim looked at me and I read his mind.

"Next time? We do the wedding first, and then go to Canada."

That was about eleven - and we got up this morning at 4:00 AM to catch a 6:30 AM flight out of Oakland to Los Angeles - which was made in record time, even down to the baggage claim and back to the Green Line station.

Got home, changed clothes (a bit) and charged off to work. I've managed to get on top of everything, start a few new things, close up a few old things and been all around busy. VERY nice.

But I'm so short on sleep (and a bit off schedule on food too) - lunch time rolled around and it was so nice to have someone bring me lunch today, I could have kissed him. Almost.

bwaaaaaiiiiiinssssss

Jim's been home all day - good thing, the dog missed us terribly - when I left this morning, I could hear her complaining bitterly about it - it sounds like I'm removing her tail and ears without anesthesia. Since she still has her tail, ears and all of her toenails, I have to tell people not to worry too much about the racket. That's my dog - she ought to give out frequent flyer miles for all the guilt trips.

The cats were out to greet us when we got in - and everything was in good order. Like I'd never left, and that's just the way I like it.

The guys want to see all the pictures tomorrow. Maybe I'll manage the Canada portion by then - but I strongly suspect they want to see the wedding pictures - "marriage party" - that's what Naren called it. I swear, I have some of the cutest videotape ever shot. Jim is proving to be an able cameraman - and being taller than everyone else, was able to shoot over heads with ease.

My poor eyes and sinuses. I have never reacted so narstily to whatever it was blooming up there in Santa Rosa - it was down to Benadryl and sleeping it off the night before the wedding, and that's saying something. The tip of my nose is a lovely shade of magenta - that, and a little bit of a headache are all that's left of the allergic reaction. I was certain I'd be in the doctor's office for conjunctivitis this afternoon, but that appears to be premature. I don't think it was the actual allergen load - but something in particular that was very offensive. Good luck determining what it was, but my bet is on some kind of nut tree - and all of the videotape of me has me glaring at the camera, snurfling. Going to school at Cal Poly was a lot like that - just take a day at random, and there would be something that would set it off. But I never could determine what it was - lovely ag/horticultural center that it is. I was able to find out what tormented me back in 1991 in Switzerland - it was the horse chestnut trees in bloom. But it took until fall to find out when the lovely nuts were all over the streets. Mom is allergic to walnut trees - it makes sense.

If you want to really know what someone is like, take a look at their friends. They're going to show you what they're really like." -- Cliff Stapfer, many times over fifteen years.

I find it only amusing that Rey and Carolyn have very few friends "not in common." Maybe family members too distant by geography to have been introduced - but circles of friends? Nah. It was one big moosh.

Oh how they danced, on the night they were wed!

I want that DJ for a backyard BBQ. And he has to stay twice as long. He also needs to be fed the finest filets and sweetmeats. He was just that good - it's hard to get me to like EVERY. DAMN. CUT. (at a wedding? SHEESH.) and I danced until I hurt - oh, twelve hours later when I noticed.

Radiant bride and groom. I think even they are going to be surprised when they look at the pictures. There were only happy people - which is tremendous - and only good times.

Now, I'm a little surprised that after the reception, everyone trucked over to the bridal suite and sat down and finished the night watching Harry Potter. But then again, this is [livejournal.com profile] silverkun and [livejournal.com profile] ceolyn. Even the next day - Jim and I spent the entire day with them finishing up the last minute schtick, and it was good.

Itty bitty baby ducks. Sitting in the sun in clover. Leftover wedding cake (and oh, it was GOOD).

I have two more games to play that require at least three people. Who's coming over? Got sodas, too.

Happy, sure. But deeply, profoundly satisfied at the same time. Now you know.

It's a crazy thing, this love that demands marriage - and make no mistake about it, this is a different kind of thing entirely from the deep affections you have towards anyone else in life. It demands expression - permanence, depth. Diversity. This isn't your best friend - it's more, and different at the same time. A category completely separate from any other kind of relationship - and if you can manage more than one person in that spot, power to you. It would exhaust and then draw and quarter me. It's that demanding - and at the same time, rewarding. If everything works, then it is a small part of your daily attention - should something happen, it's devastating in a way nothing else can be.

And you look around, see others in the same happy state of matrimony - and realize how utterly routine it all is. Maybe. *laughs* It's the only thing that makes next of kin, other than DNA. That has to count for something.

When you love like that - ah.

And my husband was just a horse, so there. Every time I picked up my head, there he was doing something - I only asked for help with streamers. He was loading, unloading, moving, shifting, watching - and had plenty of dance in him for me.

Now you know.

*raises glass* To the Next Thing. *quaffs* I can't fucking wait.
