U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, a California Republican, fought back tears as he resigned on Monday after pleading guilty to taking $2.4 million in bribes in exchange for help in securing Defense Department contracts.
Cunningham, 63, an eight-term congressman and decorated Vietnam War pilot, admitted taking cash, antiques, a yacht, vacation expenses and money for his daughter's graduation party from several defense contractors between 2000 and 2005.
"I am resigning from the House of Representatives because I've compromised the trust of my constituents," Cunningham told reporters after a hearing in San Diego federal court.
Dude. You did it more than once, from all reports. And yeah, we all knew you were doing it.
But. RECALL ELECTION SHINY LOOK HERE NOW.
I have to give this guy just a teency bit of credit - he didn't play the "I can get away with it if I drag it through the courts" card. He resigned, almost as if he knew his bit of the American Dream was over. Asswipe.
His district?
"The 50th Congressional District is arguably one of the finest districts in the United States. The district's southern-most point covers a portion of Pacific Beach. It then runs up and covers portions of La Jolla, such as University City. The 50th District includes all of Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, and Carlsbad. East of Carlsbad, the District also includes all of San Marcos and Escondido. South of Escondido, the 50th District covers large portions of Rancho Bernardo, Mira Mesa, Rancho Penasquitos, Miramar, and Clairemont Mesa. "
These are also the asswipes complaining about how "illegal immigrants" are ruining America. HERE LOOK HERE SHINY OOOOOOH.
AND DON'T FORGET THE TROOPS. HE DID! WOWEE KAZOWIE! 2.4 MILLION TIMES!
