[livejournal.com profile] silverkun and [livejournal.com profile] nytshaed went over to [livejournal.com profile] bellacrow's house to pick up the cedar chest she can't take with her to Chicago.

So I took it off her hands. Hey, I've wanted one since I was in high school.

Problem is, now I have to find a way to get it back to Los Angeles. Heh.

Fly one way to San Francisco and drive back. Oh, de agoneeee.

That, and coordinating all of that 500 miles away. Technology, I do love thee.

And they all managed not to kill each other.

Of course, I'm still 500 miles away.

And today was the blender from heck. I missed a doctor's appointment clean - again - I'll have to call tomorrow, beg abjectly for another one and apologize profusely.

This is the doctor I've yet to get in to see for more than three years. I've been trying - I just keep missing. Not fair.

So busy. So crazed. Two people went home early and ain't coming back until Monday crazed. Hide under my desk crazed.

Very glad I'm not on their project crazed.

Tomorrow is Friday. Jim goes flying on a B-17 on Sunday as part of the Experimental Aircraft Association's B-17 Flight Experience Program. In short, a nifty fundraiser - and as such, a bit pricey for both of us. I'll shoot footage with the videocamera and then let him take it up with him. That's plenty for me - I'm not the vintage aircraft buff he is - mind, if it was a B-29, I'd be all over it. That was my Dad's ride during WWII as a navigator and I have some pictures of him to prove it. *chuckles* I have his lopsided grin as well. I wish I could find out if any of his flight crew is still alive - I'm sure they could tell me a lot about him if they were. But I only know his face and his name - his sister didn't have that much information, and she's the only one with anything left.

Three house fires and two burglaries will do that to things, yanno.

Beginning a food log just to see what I've been doing, calorie-wise. Not too shabby, to be honest. A little care and I've been under (way under) 1600 a day - today was a bit more as the steak dinner threw things off. But go see what Jim has to say about the day - it was a very bad day in his neighborhood and you don't give Jim extra ice cream when you cheer him up. No, the boy just wants BEEF and plenty of it. So, steak dinner.

So glad this week is ending. And it's payday, and the beginning of a new month.

If you have your Dad's birthdate as welll...

...and place of birth, the V.A. or other government agency might be able to help you out with his outfit, and the various veteran's associations (Veterans of Foreign Wars) might be able to take it further. Speaking as an adoptee who did a birth parent search, the thing to do with the V.A. is give them what you know and ask for the earth, moon and stars - that way they'll at least give you what you're entitled to, which is probably a lot more than an adoptee with sealed records. Good luck!
