Found at farmer's market Saturday: the most awesome Japanese satsuma plums evar. People might know them as a heirloom variety of 'burgundy' plums - they have a season of three weeks, that's it folks, all done for the year, are black as the ace of spades and make the BEST jam on the planet. They're one of the participants in the Santa Rosa plum hybrid - largely to to make a plum variety that's available for a longer season.

I'm planning one batch of jam and raw-packing the balance. I also found some really good white peaches I plan to raw pack up as halves. Also found were summer squash, really tiny new potatoes and sweet corn. OH, and beets. CHEAP. Love me my beets and they were a buck a bunch, and a bunch was about two lbs each. I think I may steam them up, and then vacuum pack them for the freezer.

Anyone know of someone needing to get rid of a freezer, I'm in need of one for obvious reasons.

Thought I would do some of this work on Saturday, but when I got back from the market, it was nearly 90 inside the house. You don't start boiling water canners when it's that hot - you can, but I don't recommend it - you do take naps and hope the evening is cooler, but when seven rolled around and it was still over 85 inside, I bailed. I'll be doing this tonight after being at work in A/C all day. Some of it.

Then Sunday was Swiss Festival in Whittier, then dinner at Sis' house and that was the weekend that was. Yesterday, I ate too much. By the time dinner rolled around at Sis' house, I could only poke at it half-heartedly. Love me my Swiss chow, yes indeed. Jim did okay with it - and I got more contacts to work with to try to preserve my Swiss culture (it was one of the very few things Cliff would have wanted me to retain, if possible...and I agree. I loved my time in Switzerland - and the Swiss things were the best part of my marriage experience to Cliff). There is a standing Jass game in Venice on Thursdays - I think I'm going to try to sit in (and take Jim with) soon.

Jim got to try out his hand at shooting crossbows - and did really well, I think.

Who wants to go with me to California Adventure this Saturday and make my nephew miserable at work? Just about last chance -

I'm ignoring August this year. Just not going to think about it. If shit happens, it happens - but I'm not thinking about August that way this year.

Did two things that helped the Sims game a lot - moved the one lot back to the bin, then bulldozed the lot (I'd downloaded it originally), then removed a BUNCH of Holy Simolly stuff from the downloads folder - stuff that I'd never really used because they weren't retrofitted for anything above UNI (appliances, bathroom fixtures, etc.) - and wow. Much improved. Relieved? Yeah - but damn, I have a lot of Sims to play with. And it still takes a good bit of time to load up - and down, of course.

But - it's Monday. Time to get on with it.
