Convince me to go to Anime-Expo this year.

Convince me to spend oodles of money just to show up. On memberships, on parking, on overpriced icky hotel food. On gas to get there.

Before I ever hit the door at a dealer's room where I have everything already. And can get anything I haven't gotten down the street after the con. Whenever I want.

Tell me why I should decide within the first few minutes of the con which line to stand in for which event out of the whole weekend I have a chance of seeing. For hours. Tell me why I have to see all my AMVs on Thursday night (thanks Sean!) at dinner. No chance of seeing the show myself - uh, remember that ticket thing again? No, I don't have a room - I have a whole house, thank you. But I don't comp myself tickets to anything because I fucking live here.

Tell me why I should go.

Please.

Shit, I'd accept an invitation to a party at this point as justification.

Um. My excuse reason is Tomokazu Seki, my absolute favorite voice actor in the entire world omgestrogenfitforthisguyforyears is going to be making his very first American appearance there. Of course I just found this out half an hour ago. Otherwise there really aren't too many reasons to go to Anime Expo, seriously.

Well, hope you get a con block room at one of the hotels or you won't see much - that's how they are handling the tickets. That, or wait in line and hope they have room.

Oh you have got to be shitting me. You get priority if you have a room in the con block? FORGET IT. I have a cousin-in-law (to be) to stay with. That's... that's... that's such utter and total asinine bullshit. *coff*MARKETING*coff*

Maybe if I was the silly fangirl I was 5 years ago I would have done it in a heartbeat. Now however... jeezus.

The lines, bad acoustics, and sardine jamminess at ACen have me thinking much the same thing about invites to any other large con: "Why should I?!"

There were several guests I really wanted to see at ACen.
After opening ceremonies, I saw NONE of them. Because I didn't feel like getting into a line 1-3 hours before the panels/events in question and because the times chosen by me and buddies for things like food away from hotel generally conflicted.

Though I didn't have everything that was in dealer room. Rather wish I had. *hides credit card statement under her laundry*

All in all.. I think the Con thing just isn't MY thing.. so I'm not going to be too good in giving reasons to go ^^

Forget Anime-Expo! Go to where the big dawgs go... OTAKON!!! Yes, you need to fly to Baltimore, Maryland and join the real Anime fans at a real Convention center enjoying real anime fun! Don't except any mickey-mouse rip-off!

I have to agree. Unless you're really set on seeing the J-GoHs or an industry stalker, AX just doesn't seem to have the interesting events lineup that Otakon does.

And I'd say come to Otakon over AWA any day.

there is only one reason to go to AX this year... because I'll be there again and it's going to be a surprise to see what color (or is that colors?) my hair will be... ^_^

And this year I've actually got an entire staff coming with me so that I don't have to stress about hitting certain events ^_^

Sadly though I don't think there are going to be any parties around my place this year... Masquerade is really screwing that one up for me for any sort of party on the 4th >_<
But who knows... I might try to organize something for the 3rd... it's only AX Idol... I know I don't care about that one...

Anything you have to work that hard to talk yourself in to (or have others try and talk you in to) isn't going to be worth your time or money.

Do the smart thing; plan a lavish home made brunch for you and Jim. Eat it watching the morning cartoons and then pack a picnic lunch for the beach and go fly a kite. I can damn near promise you'll feel more relaxed, have a better time, and not spend hundreds of dollars you'd rather save toward going to Hawaii this autumn for your wedding anniversary.

You're always telling me what to do, how about for a change you listen to someone else, and not stress yourself by seeing how thinly you can spread you and Jim.

I've told Jim he can sign up to work that weekend - and I've dropped a note to the convention staff with my "concerns."

Everyone else can pay the money - and that's what they'll use to justify the policy. It's Orange County - what else is new?

Shoot, it would be cheaper to fly to St. Louis for Fair St. Louis, which Jim keeps telling me is the best thing they do all year -
