Tonight?

We have an event. Check the side bar on the right hand side, mentioning the Japanese-American Museum. We're going to be there tonight. Subject matter?

"..a discussion on the dynamics of memory and monuments in American public spaces."

I'm going to need to take a pad of paper and something to write notes with - if I'm asked to pose questions, I intend to.

I've signed us up for a CSA program.

What's that? Community Supported Agriculture. Kind of a "feed the hand that feeds you" sort of thing. You pay money up front, they deliver fresh produce to you on a regular basis. The program I found has a drop point in Manhattan Beach - yup, right smack dab in the middle of the world of The Well Heeled Who Can Afford Anything-ville. The drop point is at a chiropractic office. I am much amused.

And this program delivers weekly - every Wednesday. I'm looking forward to seeing what's going to be in the "generous" box next week - that's the beauty of the program. You don't decide what goes in the box - it almost guarantees more variety in the diet.

Want to find one near you? Check it.

Going to be cooking more. Definitely.

Honey? The link to the Japanese-American Museum is a link to whatever page your entry is being viewed from.

Congrats on signing up for a CSA program. My neighbor was once part of one, he bought a half share. But it was just him, so it was always too much for him and pretty costly for a single person. He quit after a couple months. I imagine this would be a great this for a family with young kids, so family members could learn about new fruits and veggies together and add more variety to the diet.
I once had to grow a vegetable garden as an assignment at my horticulture school, with a set list of what to grow including a number of items I'd never included in my diet previously. I definitely got to experiment and learned to love flat-leaf parsley, beets, swiss chard, kohlrabi and english peas to name but a few. Good luck!

That is such a cool idea - I had no clue stuff like that existed. Makes me wish I had $400 to plop down, but I don't :(

When you figure that I'll be getting enough food to feed both of us each week for the next three months for that - vegetarian, but I could do it - I found the funds, believe me. I've spent almost twice that in two weeks -

Yeah, but that's just on veggies. I'd still have to go to the store and buy stuff to go with them.

*nods* I may just do a challenge to see just how much I'd have to add to make it work - say, the $10 challenge. $10 more dollars and live on the box for a week - hmm!

CSA programs are great

CSAs are great on a number of levels. I've belonged to one for years. You are correct, the greatest part, as well as the greatest challenge, is that you have no choice about the produce you get. You learn to cook based on what you have at hand versus what you want.

I'm writing about said challenge as we speak on my food blog http://www.cuisinecapers.com
