[livejournal.com profile] yuki_onna is one of them. [livejournal.com profile] ginmar is another.

If you're not reading either of them, you should. They write well and don't scrimp.

From [livejournal.com profile] ginmar's this morning:

(She's just gotten home from Iraq on leave...)

People don't matter, I don't think---to some people. I was struck by a thought, too, after finally getting to read Barack Obama's wonderful speech from the DNC. I bitch about the Democrats, and limousine liberals, but people matter to them. To the Republicans who are now ruining the party that I once voted for, money matters.

I'm not talking here about the Republicans who are in the middle, who are what the Party used to be---I'm talking about the ones we have now, who kowtow to whoever offers the most money for the blowjob. My dear professor friend is a moderate Republican, and he, and a bunch of other people are perfect examples of what the Republicans used to be. The Party, however, is not.

I hope she finds her cat. The one her friend's ex's nephew let out yesterday. After she had given her friend one clear directive - keep my cats safe. The ancient, declawed one - that's the one. After the "friend" hadn't even paid rent since February. Uh huh.

Reminds me of when I came home from Switzerland for Christmas and discovered my house had been totally trashed by the people I had trusted to take care of it for me.

I don't loan anything much anymore. I have to put the qualifier in there because, well, yes - I do lend some things. Things I can afford to wave goodbye to and never see again.

And I had thoughts much the same about what really mattered to people.

Augh, when I hear horror stories about bad housesitters, I cringe. I used to do a lot of housesitting and I understood that a person's home is a sanctuary to them and it's an insult to them and their trust if one of disrespectful of that space.
I had such high standards for taking care of people's things that, when I moved away for school and friends asked if they could take my jobs AND my clients asked if I could suggest a new sitter, I couldn't recommend a single person. Perhaps I should be a little more trusting on my part, but I don't really think you can be too cautious when it comes to watching over someone else's home and pets.

*nods* I know what you mean... I'm pretty careful with my own things on a regular basis, but I'm infinitely more so when I'm around other people's belongings, family (including pets), etc. I just figure, if I break something of my own, it's my own damn fault and I'll just have to repair or replace it, but if I break someone else's stuff, especially when it's been entrusted to my care... that's a breach of trust and ettiquette that I'd rather not deal with. *shrugs*

Hey...I am going to Switzerland at the end of September...any suggestions of where to go or what to do while being there? I soooooo want to take advantage of the trip.

Wow, I hope she finds her cat too...the animals that live with me are such like children to me that I can't imagine one of them being gone and having no idea where they are at.

I've got to place a phone call tomorrow AM - I'll see.

Possibly could be going the same time you are - depends on a number of factors. Where are you going?

Well, I got my call in - huzzah!

Our trip is being postponed until October - Mom's status is just going to keep me close for a while.

I lived in Zurich - what would you like to do? If you love trains, I can make lots of suggestions. What would make your day?
