[livejournal.com profile] dewhitton has it - a "boobook owl." I'm going to go be very happy for a while -

I love cute critters. And as sensitive as owl's eyes are, it was probably seeing spots and blinking for a good hour after that flash went off :-)

Aw. I want to give it a head scratch, except it would probably bite my finger off.

Poor think looks like someone's been sneaking up and scaring the living daylights out of it...er nightlights? Hrrm...not sure since owls are nocturnal.

He does animal rescue, so I'm sure there was a good reason for the photo - but yeah, I'm with you.

WTF WAS THAT?!

That reminds me of an NPR piece I heard last Thanksgiving where a reporter cautioned parents not to get owls as a child's pet, for most of them require special and attentive care, something both the parent and child might get tired of providing, thus leading to abandonment of the "pet". Hope this little fella wasn't in that situation.

He gets them through some of the oddest channels, but mostly through car vs. bird/critter - take a look at his journal, he's one of the good ones.

No, I meant I hoped he didn't have to rescue it from being mistreated and/or it being unable to function in the wild (which would be much worse).

That owl looks so... archetypal.

And very cute :)
