Somebody cross-check me on this one.

[livejournal.com profile] fortysomething has a member, [livejournal.com profile] harmnone.

She has a son in Baghdad, [livejournal.com profile] jodd.

Who, if you look at his profile page, has a girl friend [livejournal.com profile] pretty_dictator. Who, frankly, is downright SCARY.

[livejournal.com profile] harmnone made the delightful proposal that our military intelligence couldn't possibly know about any WMDs in Iraq because Saddam hid it from his own cabinet. *clears throat* In case you didn't catch that, because Saddam hid it from his own cabinet.

And it was during a discussion about intelligence.

I guess if she's using the current administration for comparison, I can't be too surprised.

But - cross check me on this one. If we went to the UN with "proof" of WMDs (which Powell did, I heard it - you don't have to believe me, read it from the White House itself.), the concept that you could "hide" WMDs from every part of the country, include the highest cabinet levels...*sighs*...could not be plausible.

Her child is in Iraq.

But even this is stretching it. How can I possibly discuss this?

And I'm leaving this public. I don't need to sing this song to the choir.

Despite having been a member of that community for a very long time, I rarely comment, because many of those people worry me.

That's um... wow. I mean, I knew it was getting bad when I couldn't play Final Fantasy XI without some Neo-Con trolling the forums of FFXI community websites, but that's just a whole new level of frightening.

And on a completely random note, I suggest Kamatari Damancy if you have access to a PS2. It's the weirdest thing I've ever seen brought to the US. As strange of a world as it is, it seems almost normal in comparison to some people u.u;;;

Oh, thank you. I think I need that on a T-shirt.

...so if our military intelligence couldn't possibly know about WMDs, why the fuck did we invade again?

Chaining two ideas together does not logic make. Especially if, despite the chains, they gnaw off limbs and scream to get away.

still laughing

OwOwOw, my head hurts. 15-year old neo-nazis and people who say that because there might be WMDs in Syria and Jordan (those were the places she named, right? I'm not going back to check), it's perfectly logical to bomb Iraq tend to have that effect on it.

And how on earth would anyone be able to hide the fact that they were spending part of the national budget on bigass bombs? What would he say? "Why, yes, [random cabinet person], I do realise that it seems odd that I have taken 375 million dollars from our budget to buy new curtains for my house, but it is a big house, you know?"

Agh, I'm going to hide in my bed now.

Sorry - this has nothing to do with your answer but I had to tell you that I used to know a guy in California who called himself Sputnik. He traveled between the Pacific Northwest and San Francisco, usually hanging out with my roommates and I when he was in SF.

He also used to borrow a dollar from me when he left. I think he still owes one to me.

HA HA HA HA! Yes I saw that. That's from that series of rewritten Spider-Man comic strips that came out a few weeks ago. I love a morally questionable woman with a sense of humor! <3

Oh yeah, female. Definitely female. I get reminded of it far too often. Blech.

pretty_dictator is not his girlfriend! I just bought airline tickets for his girlfriend to fly out from New York while he's on leave, and she doesn't even have an LJ. When he first set up his journal, I emailed him and asked him why he had a Nazi friend. He said she's brilliant, and he's trying to reason with her and change her mind. Oh, my goodness! Do you see how rumors get started when you assume things? I'm horrified that anyone would even think that that's his girlfriend! AAACCCKKKK!!!!

Voice from a total stranger

Hi! You don't know me and I don't know you, but in all seriousness ma'am, the purpose of Livejournal itself is to meet new and interesting people, and oftentimes the new and interesting people one meets don't agree with one's opinions, or even one's way of thinking. Your son obviously has an open mind, and is willing to accept someone for their merits even if he doesn't necessarily agree with his or her opinions, or even with the legitimacy of said opinions, or even imagine how someone could have arrived at them in the first place. Don't get so worried; you've obviously just raised him right. =)

As for this whole witchhunt going on here, I really don't know what this person's going on about in this post, or care to know what you did to warrant it, but all I can say is that to express an opinion at all these days is to invite a controversy. Calling upon one's friends outside the argument to validate one's position is an old and respected tactic among the chronically argumentative. All you can do is stick to your guns and remember that in the end, the wages of controversy are greatness. ... Or vice-versa. Either way!

Here's exactly what I said, since I hate to be taken out of context:
"Even the UN says there were WMD's, we just don't know what happened to them. ...and the report today says that Saddam apparently even fooled his own cabinet! How is our intelligence supposed to uncover something that even his own cabinet didn't know?"

...so it wasn't ever my "delightful proposal." Here's where that came from: as I was writing that comment, I was half-listening to a report on the Duelfer report, and that's what I heard. I've since downloaded the entire report, and I've read a little over half of it, and I haven't been able to find anything about that. ...so I guess I've learned not to just type things that I hear without checking them out. The Duelfer report does talk a lot about the threat of Saddam, though; I'd suggest you all read it.

Thank you for your comment. When he explained to me why she is on his friend's list, I was proud of him. I even apologized for freaking out and told him that, knowing him, I should've realized that there was a logical explanation.
