Somebody cross-check me on this one.
fortysomething has a member,
harmnone.
She has a son in Baghdad,
jodd.
Who, if you look at his profile page, has a girl friend
pretty_dictator. Who, frankly, is downright SCARY.
harmnone made the delightful proposal that our military intelligence couldn't possibly know about any WMDs in Iraq because Saddam hid it from his own cabinet. *clears throat* In case you didn't catch that, because Saddam hid it from his own cabinet.
And it was during a discussion about intelligence.
I guess if she's using the current administration for comparison, I can't be too surprised.
But - cross check me on this one. If we went to the UN with "proof" of WMDs (which Powell did, I heard it - you don't have to believe me, read it from the White House itself.), the concept that you could "hide" WMDs from every part of the country, include the highest cabinet levels...*sighs*...could not be plausible.
Her child is in Iraq.
But even this is stretching it. How can I possibly discuss this?
And I'm leaving this public. I don't need to sing this song to the choir.

Date: 2004-10-07 04:29 pm (UTC)And how on earth would anyone be able to hide the fact that they were spending part of the national budget on bigass bombs? What would he say? "Why, yes, [random cabinet person], I do realise that it seems odd that I have taken 375 million dollars from our budget to buy new curtains for my house, but it is a big house, you know?"
Agh, I'm going to hide in my bed now.

Date: 2004-10-08 06:27 pm (UTC)As for this whole witchhunt going on here, I really don't know what this person's going on about in this post, or care to know what you did to warrant it, but all I can say is that to express an opinion at all these days is to invite a controversy. Calling upon one's friends outside the argument to validate one's position is an old and respected tactic among the chronically argumentative. All you can do is stick to your guns and remember that in the end, the wages of controversy are greatness. ... Or vice-versa. Either way!

Date: 2004-10-08 06:34 pm (UTC)"Even the UN says there were WMD's, we just don't know what happened to them. ...and the report today says that Saddam apparently even fooled his own cabinet! How is our intelligence supposed to uncover something that even his own cabinet didn't know?"
...so it wasn't ever my "delightful proposal." Here's where that came from: as I was writing that comment, I was half-listening to a report on the Duelfer report, and that's what I heard. I've since downloaded the entire report, and I've read a little over half of it, and I haven't been able to find anything about that. ...so I guess I've learned not to just type things that I hear without checking them out. The Duelfer report does talk a lot about the threat of Saddam, though; I'd suggest you all read it.

Date: 2004-10-10 12:29 pm (UTC)It's time to put this aside and move on. And I'm going to do this as firmly as I know how.
Imagine yourself standing in your own living room and someone steps in, invited to give their opinion, and instead begin accusing you of having an "inability to understand the real world" - your words, toots, not mine - and I think I've done a fine job of supporting my opinions with verifiable fact, not simply standing on my own feelings on any one of the matters we have discussed in your own journal.
And frankly, I was brought up too well to continue personal attacks when they have no fruitful purpose.
You are not interested in the truth; you are not interested in any agreement (not even to disagree); your unwillingness to accept the reality that you have been mislead, lied to and USED, body and soul speaks far more to presumption and a lack of maturity than anything I could say or do.
And I have not had to resort to my own opinions without supporting them with the information gained by reasonably unbiased sources - something you have not done. At all.
Lady, you would let someone kill your children before admitting you were lied to, and you fell for it. That is the impression I get.
Go home and talk all your want in your own living room. You either behave properly when you are in my house, or you will be evicted. Your choice.

Date: 2004-10-10 11:58 am (UTC)I've begged him to write in his journal. He's done an awful lot of writing, but he doesn't want anyone to read it, yet; he's always been frustratingly private. His mentor is a Vietnam hero and author, loves what Kyle has allowed him to read and also begs to write more. OTOH, I'd prefer right now that he just concentrate on staying alive.
I did notice the separation between words but wasn't quite sure of the significance of pointing out that his friend is a girl. ...sorry.

Date: 2004-10-10 12:35 pm (UTC)One of the first things you will learn about me is that my military experiences are more WWII, Korea based. Vietnam was a very polarizing experience for more than one reason, and a number of people who came out of that experience were children when they went into it. And I keep that fact firmly in hand when I deal with anyone who claims to be a Vietname "anything" - war hero, victim, you name it.
