Leaving it up to God now -
Nov. 2nd, 2004 11:40 amWhatever happens, I'm sure I'll be okay.
And at midnight tonight, this icon is retired. I really hope I don't have to replace it with this thing:

I Voted... Did You?

Date: 2004-11-02 09:11 pm (UTC)Our founding fathers did not believe the electorate was not intelligent, therefore we have the Electoral College, and IMHO thank God we have it. Next thing you know we will be voting for Federal Judges...
There is a reason why our Constitution is set the way it is... Love or not, but it works... Even when the Left wants to ignore it, and the right wants to burn it. The goofy French and the aloof Brits still haven't gotten it right... The US Constitution, 200 years old and still running.

Only since Bush came into the race does anyone seem to recall the electoral college - funny, that. As hated as Clinton was, there was no question on his re-election. I'm trying to find the figures, but no luck yet - it just wasn't that important, I guess.
I've got another ballot to fill out - I'm being asked to decide on another set of issues over there. It's the third time I've been questioned in a year - and the best part of it, I think, is that all the legal challenges were settled on the validity of the initatives before they were put to a popular vote. If it passes, it's the law of the land. There is no "send it to the legal system" for a second opinion.
We do pretty well - for such a young country, methinks. But there is no system made that isn't open to improvement.
At least, by now, one would hope everyone is clear on how our system works when it comes to electing a President.

Date: 2004-11-02 11:23 pm (UTC)Missouri is the one that has cities that have their own taxes in addition to the federal and state - that really bites, neh?
Live in St. Louis, pay federal, state and city taxes. *shudder*
