FWIW, I remember that assassination very well. Nobody was happy, matter of fact I remember teachers brought to tears. While I was in a neighborhood so white the indigenous kids from the reservation nearby were the only ‘color’ around, nobody said anything but praise for MLK in my hearing. We’d lost two Kennedys by then. Assholes were killing good people, that’s how it played.
