Thank God for Jim's mother - "If I can be your security, I will." She said that to me on the phone today.

Gods, I want other people I trust as much as my mother around me, the rest of my life.

My sympathies. I have heard about people getting really close later in life despite previous differences. However, that hasn't been the case with my older sister who sounds like your sister!

There is a lot of bad blood between and my sister. It all started when my Dad was ill. So, there have been few words spoken between us, now I take care of Mom, and my sister sends an occasional greeting card. I feel like an only child now.
