ModerateIndependent
A clip:
The reality is, we have a truly great nation of truly great people, and the differences between the Red States and the Blue States, and indeed, the people in the Red areas of Blue States and Blue areas of Red States, are not so big as they are seeming. The Fox/Limbaugh right wants to keep you fired up, thinking the other side are wimpy morons who don’t care about the nation, and the Moore left wants you to feel that anyone who supports Bush is part of a conspiracy, a moron, and doesn’t truly care about America or democracy.
The Moderate Independent had its role during the pre-election period. Now, we serve as the safe haven for people of both and all sides. As independents, we only have two unshakable values: we stand for truth, and what is best for America.
This is America’s forum, the only place truly devoid of partisanship, where we hope that a great candidate emerges in 2008, and don’t really care whether he stands in front of an elephant or a donkey. When you are done being spun with lies to hate in the “no spin zone,” this is the place to come to find actual honesty and non-partisanship. When you begin to get tired of having your stomach turned sour by left-wing movies that make Republicans out to be cross-burning Nazis, this is the place to come.
Indeed, there are Bushies who are cross-burning would-be Nazis and there are liberals who are wimps and hate many basic things about America and capitalism.
This is not the place for them.
Their primary concern right now? Election accuracy. No, nobody is screaming up and down hollering that the election was stolen - just very quietly going about the business of verification, without holding up the process of getting on with life.
Some of the quotes:
"See, we told you you could relax, and that Kerry was simply, as he said he would with Iraq, choosing a third smarter, more subtle, more effective way of dealing with the situation, making it a no lose endeavor for him."
"Anyone care to contact the Green party or Nader and suggest they set up a fund – we bet it would be filled in no time." (Emphasis mine - Green or Nader - it's not both, and we all know it.)
And they hate right-wing liars. Well, who doesn't hate liars? Looks like they hate left-wing liars with equal venom.
Definite potential.
Unlike the folks over at Spending Liberally - who responded to my query about "why don't you have everyone switch over to Working Assets if you don't like the wireless companies they have now?" - with a modified, very flattering version of "we need more smart people like you!"
Sheeeeeyit. I was doing this back in the day when Anita Bryant wanted us all to be just like her. I never got a taste for Florida orange juice after that -
It's a good idea, though. It's been going on for decades - just not to the moderate/left taste.
I think one of the biggest problems (if you can call it that) my side of the aisle has had these years is that we really believe everyone is entitled to their opinion and that proper modesty prevents one from calling someone an ignorant pig, just because they disagreed with us. We were willing to respect other ideas - because we wanted our beliefs to be to respected in turn.
The only thing I've seen since the election is the belief that this was a bad idea, and that being considerate was wrong, open hostility is expected and you can go from there.
Gee, the 70's weren't bad enough - let's go back to the early 60's where presidents, presidential candidates and civil rights leaders were assassinated by members of our general population. Let's Go!
And people died on civil rights protests. And it took federal marshalls to get a first-grade girl to class.
Sure, let's go! Those were the good ol' days!
Remember - one voted for, one voted against. Anywhere you go. These aren't Reagan years. They aren't Clinton years.

Date: 2004-11-12 11:04 am (UTC)The two we can use are AT&T (which we currently have) and Verizon (to which we will switch). All the other companies will gladly sell you a cell phone and plan, but there's no way of assuring that they will work at home. I know from experience that any GSM/GPRS plan will not work here (we have tried). I know from Metaplay test experience that Verizon works even better than AT&T here at home, so that's where we will go.
I'd gladly switch to Working Assets, but they or their master carrier need to provide us with cell towers in rural portions of the Kitsap Peninsula, and not just in the urban areas of Silverdale and Bremerton. If it doesn't work at home, it doesn't work.
