Really tired. Very tired. Tired as in got in at 2:00 AM this morning tired, and I just managed to get a nap. (Oh, and got up again at 6:30 AM to go to work tired.)
Went to IKEA tired. Got meatballs with sauce, and some pastries tired. Candles tired.
So I'm gonna shut up and post some music links. Tired. Tired of Christmas music? Me too. Tired.
The theme? Covers that add a layer to the original - and make it a completely new song. My favorite kind!
Swing Out Sister - Am I The Same Girl (Of course....)
Sugar Ray - Every Morning
Beach Boys/Fat Boys - Wipe Out
And something that's more of a mix than a cover - but kickass all the same:
The Police/Henry Mancini - Every Breath You Take
Word.

Date: 2004-12-20 08:50 pm (UTC)Song: Never Let Me Down Again
Original version, by Depeche Mode
Far superior (IMO) Smashing Pumpkins cover -- it adds an entire level of intimacy and longing that is completely absent from the original.
Bonus:
Depeche Mode performing their version live, with Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan as a guest vocalist!
Then again, I'm a completely Smashing Pumpkins whore, but I still stand by my opinion on this :P

Date: 2004-12-20 09:20 pm (UTC)How about the Fugees with Killing Me Softly? Ooh, and someone did a great version of the Beatles Twist & Shout in the mid-90s, can't remember who but it rocked :)

Heaven help me remember the title today -

Date: 2004-12-23 11:43 am (UTC)Why oh why hasn't anyone made a decent AMV to this song before? Don't look at me, I have no idea what I'd set it to.
As for covers that add a layrer to the original, have you checked out the Ella Enchanted CD? Though some may pan it as too commercial, I really enjoyed their take on several of the songs. Particularly Queen's Somebody to Love, though there's also a fine rendition of ELO's Strange Magic in there too.
