Living with infamy
Jan. 12th, 2005 02:14 pm WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. force that scoured Iraq for weapons of mass destruction -- cited by President Bush as justification for war -- has abandoned its long and fruitless hunt to assist in counter-insurgency efforts, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.
The 1,700-strong Iraq Survey Group, responsible for the hunt, last month wrapped up physical searches for weapons of mass destruction, and its mission has been refocused on gathering information to help U.S. forces in Iraq win a bloody guerrilla war, officials said.
Bush and other U.S. officials cited the grave threat posed by Iraq's chemical and biological weapons and Baghdad's efforts to acquire a nuclear arms capability as a central justification for the March 2003 invasion of Iraq. No such weapons have been found.
*clears throat*
From March 17, 2003.
From March 20th, 2003:

I AM NOT AT WAR WITH IRAQ. March 20th, as well.
On another subject, if your voting precinct is going to electronic voting this next election and you're concerned about the validity of your vote (software errors, outright fraud, etc.) and there is no paper backup to check the election - think ahead and order an absentee ballot and make sure you deliver it by verifiable post. You don't have to use the machines! - March 23, 2003.
Nearly two years later, and nobody will stand up tall enough, loud enough or RIGHT enough to say this was wrong.
But they can complain about blowjobs. And homosexuals who don't know their place. And uppity women who want to control their own lives. Without the help of a husband, a father or a brother. Or a pharmacist's opinion.
Angry was two years ago. I can clearly recall now why Cliff always claimed to be Swiss when people discussed politics. Today, I am too stunned. Likely, I'll begin to do it too.
I'm very, very fortunate that none of this insanity has impacted me directly yet. Nothing more. Not. One. Thing. More.
It's only a matter of time before it does. Shit like this spreads.

Date: 2005-01-12 11:01 pm (UTC)Some professors at my school recently worked on a petition for Certiorari (i.e., to review) on Roe vs. Wade. It was just filed. It's not as uncommon an occurrence as one might think (a version of that petition is sent out about every two years or so), but I'm fervently hoping the Supreme Court will say "No thanks" to that, as they usually do, because I'm afraid that the one time they decide otherwise, most people my age are going to take it as seriously as they take voting. =[

I would give up my US citizenship and take Canadian, except for the fact that it would mean I can't vote and then can't complain.
I'm still upset over teh whole "what about Monica/homosexuals/etc" when they are using *VIET NAM TYPE TACTICS* in Iraq! AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
And then Abu Gharib and Guantanimo...... yeesh.
