This is off this site which deals with Japanese wedding attire - something I likely should have consulted before trying to do-it-myself. Oh, well.

Updating some old records (Texuba anyone?) - and stumbled across this. I see the uchikake, but what is that coat over it? Holy cow.

Wooooow.

(I'm a textile nut. Couldn't tell, couldya....)

That's absolutely gorgeous... the only thing is... how long did it take her to get dressed? Even WITH help?

Yeeeks.

ANd, 0f course, I wonder how heavy that stuff is all together...

Well since I simply hate textiles I won't tell you about having to wipe off the keyboard and just staring at the picture. How incredably beautiful!

That is gorgeous!!

That outermost layer you see is the uchikake, and the one underneath is the kakeshita. I have to say that is the most colorful uchikake I have ever seen!!

That's what I was going to say. An uchikake is just a white/red/colourful kimono overcoat that is currently only worn for weddings. In earlier periods, wealthy ladies wore them for non-wedding occasions as well.

That really is an incredible uchikake! But I bet it's probably heavy to wear!

I love all the color. If I have another wedding, it's going to be color, not whiteness. :)

I decided a while back that if I ever get married (however unlikely that is), it will be in red. My friend [livejournal.com profile] servermonk's bride wore an incredible blood-red dress for their wedding. I was in awe.

That is absolutely gorgeous... But, that being said, damn I'm glad you didn't consult that site. We had enough of a challenge getting everyone dressed for your wedding...

Including the fight as we all tried to figure out how to tie [livejournal.com profile] unclejimbo's pants. *Smirks* More challenge? Not a good thing. ;)
