Safe back at home at Drayton Manor Theme Park and Zoo in Tamworth, England, are three cotton-top Tamarin monkeys -- Rio, Baby and Pinkie -- who were kidnapped earlier this week. Police rescued the stolen simians in two raids in Birmingham.

Did I mention I love tamarins?

I love them too! There are golden lion tamarins at Zoo Atlanta. Last time I was there they had a baby. It was soooo tiny and so bright golden. They have a program there where they train them to return to the wild so sometimes we see them in the trees with little radio collars on learning to leap between tree branches and such.

Oh my, the cotton-tops are just fabulous, like mutant warrior gremlins or something. They all have such 80s hair, and I swear the one on the left is wearing a jewelled headband.

Random person just poking around, saw this, love 'em and thought that you should know this: Barcelona zoo has one of the best primate exhibates that I have ever seen. If you ever get the chance, go go go!

I had a friend in high school who adored monkeys. It was all she wanted. Her Grandmother bought her a Red Handed Tamarin when she was in 10th Grade and she did not get it until she was a freshman in college. (2.5 year Waiting list)

I am sure they don't sell them anymore--like that. But he was a wonderful, sweet, sweet creature. I adored him. His favorite two items in her house were the Mickey Mouse Telephone and the picture of her grandmother (oddly). He hated my toddler with a passion--I think it was fear of a small creature. He really was a special, sweet creature.

She was nearly killed in a car wreck and spent time in a coma. He died during that time. He refused to eat because she was not there. I was on my way to get him (I lived out of state) when he died. It was so sad. No one has a right to own these sweet animals. But she loved him so much, and he loved her. Ever since him, I have have adored these little creatures!

Have you ever heard of Diane Ackerman? She wrote about being part of a Golden Lion Tamarin repatriation/rescue project in Brazil in her book Rarest of the Rare. She's an *amazing* writer.
