Talked to Dr. Whizbang.

We can begin with my next cycle, but he says I need to make sure I've got coverage - and that the success rate is around 2%.

That's Two. Percent.

I'm going to verify coverage, but it looks pretty good to get most of it covered. (It's oral meds and some injectibles...for me. Pr0n for Jim, but that's easy to come by - )

If we don't have coverage, it's going to be very hard to justify trying anything.

On the other hand, somewhere along the line, I attached becoming a parent to Finishing The Growing Up Process - and I think just getting Old without Finishing Being a Kid makes me angrier than anything else.

That, and having menstrual cycles since age 14 for nothing factors in there, too.

I've done everything I was supposed to do. I didn't have kids when I couldn't afford them, or spare the energy to raise them. Now, I don't make the cut?

Oh, the adoption route is still under construction - no worries there, except it's all taking so much longer than I expected. The yes or the no, that is.

I don't want to be the one who dies with the most toys. I don't.

Hope the cycles go well and the drugs don't have any of their not so nice side effects with you. Hope the grief with each cycle isn't too much to bear and that you're soon blessed with a passel of kids. They're cool. I love it when people really want kids. Makes me happy.

I wish I could donate you some of my fertility. Not like I'm gonna use it, most likely.

But they won't even let you donate *eggs* after 30. (I checked; I'd have given my cousin an egg, but I was just 30. She had cancer at 29, and now has to adopt, and they're giving her grief. Between her breast cancer and her husband being - gasp - forty, they're having trouble. And she's a social worker!)

We are going to try for the first time at Beltaine. By then, I'll be covered under charlesks' health insurance at work and will have gone to see a good OB/GYN in preparation. As you know, I think, we're going with a donor, since getting Charles' vasectomy reversed is not covered by anything or anybody.

I think I know what you're feeling about the menstrual cycles for nothing, and I'd do the medication if I were covered for that just to have a greater chance. As it is, though, it's natural or nothing for us at this point, since I don't think we qualify to adopt due to health issues (mine) and age (his).

I had a single woman on disability and section 8 housing in our MAPP class due to lupus, looking to foster - I wouldn't discourage you from adoption on that count.

And I know of a family in Hemet that adopted children when they were in their sixties. Age isn't a barrier either.

I know exactly what you mean about finishing growing up. It really does turn you the rest of the way into an adult when you have a wee person who absolutely needs you to put his/her needs first.

But weirdly you get to be kidlike all over again.

Depends on your viewpoint, I guess. I didn't become pregnant, no, but six months after stopping treatment I was separated... so I'm glad it didn't happen, in hindsight.
