Mass quantities of dairy products work wonders on mood elevation. At least in my case, they do. (That Swiss thing again - *laughs*)

At lunchtime, I went out and purchased some yogurt (coffee-flavored, yum), a half-gallon of 2% in a glass bottle (something we can use here at the office once emptied), and a block of something old, stinky and delicious that was quickly consumed with a fuji apple that had been hollowed out and filled with apple sorbet and frozen (got two of them, and the other one is still in the freezer for tomorrow).

Tonight, we salad. Something substantial - but we have greens like you wouldn't believe out of the CSA box this week. Time for something hot on top of something cold. Yup yup yup.

In your case, the Swiss thing... if it were me, it would be the Wisconsin thing. ;)

That sounds so good. Especially the apple...what a completely cool idea. :)

ooh, the apple sounds tasty!

What was the oldenstinken? I have a lovely wedge of Appenzeller in the fridge that I automatically thought should be fondue, but it may be tomorrow's lunch instead. Mmm!

I've been meaning to ask...

...what is CSA? Al I can think of is "Confederate States of America" and I'm pretty sure that's NOT right. :-)

Community Supported Agriculture. The usual deal is that once a week you go by a designated pickup point and pick up a box of fresh (usually organic) vegetables and other related goodies. Sometimes you pay up front for a whole season; mine you pay by the week. This week we got:

Yellow fin potatoes, red leaf lettuce, carrots, basil, yellow tomatoes, broccoli, limes, yellow onions, pink lady apples, chard, strawberries, rhubarb, and valencia oranges... and garlic, which got auto-substituted for the turnips. (Ours is cool in that we can swap out up to three items of the fourteen, and we can perma-block some items...) Total cost, $27 for a box that'll feed two people each of the items mentioned. We can do as well going to the farmer's market, but it's not all organic there, and we don't have to fight the crowds, either, just pull into a parking lot, pick up the box, and go. (Payment is handled either via auto-debit or by simply sending them a check.)

If you google for Community Supported Agriculture you can probably find several in your area... here in the Pacific Northwet we not only get CSA for fruits and veggies but also organic meats, and there's also a fish service.

It's a really cool way to (a) get fresh organic fruit and veggies into your diet without a lot of effort, and (b) support sustainable organic farming, and (c) occasionally meet like-minded folk. (Our CSA has social events several times a year in addition to simply peddling veggies...)
