Well, we're not going to get out of this month unscathed again.

Mom just called. My uncle, the last of the males of his generation, has been hospitalized and diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. I'd give him a span of months - likely, weeks.

And no, I'm not surprised at all. He's not been well for at least a year that I know of - he's just been too much of a turdbucket to do anything about it.

Oh, I'm not bitter or anything. But it's all in character - and I had the scenario pegged some time ago.

You can't be mad at a dog for being a dog.

But this is going to get messy, quick. And protecting my mother from the fallout is going to take some serious tap dancing. Good thing I never put away my shoes.

*rolls eyes* GHAD FSCKING AUGUST.

I am sorry. Perhaps in the near future we can get together.

My sympathy. That's what got my Dad. Damn.

My best advice is to get him the heck out of the hospital and into a good hospice. At least they'll keep him comfortable and let him go out with dignity. A hospital is a good place to go when you're sick, but the worst place possible when you're dying.

Ah, you hit the nail on the head. It's taken all hands and the cook to get him into the hospital. Y'see, the old fart only likes one doctor - and he was on vacation, and when he did get in to see him, he was only a GP with no hospital privileges. But he admitted him - and now we have something to blame the piss-poor health he's been in for months.

Did I mention this is my rabidly neo-con uncle who I had to protect my mother from last fall? My sibs won't allow her alone with him anymore - I had to chaperone her last visit to them - he's that much of a turdbucket.

Hospice care is good for your uncle. I wish you luck with your mother. I am sorry you are losing your uncle in such an awful way. I can only hope it is as quick as possible, for his sake.

He's been getting incredibly old in the last few years - quick would be a mercy at this point.

I'm really sorry to hear this. Good luck to you and your family, and to you in protecting your mother (who has been through quite enough already).

I'm sorry to hear it. My uncle also has pancreatic cancer, and he also felt poorly for a while before it was diagnosed. Problem is that pancreatic cancer mimics a lot of other symptoms. I wish the news were better.

He has a lot of other things wrong with him - it just looks like this is big enough to finish him off.

Frankly, I'm surprised something new on the chart is going to do it - he's been an alcoholic with a very compromised circulatory system for decades.

February, it rains here. You get wet. You're stupid, you try driving in California and someone hits your car.

August used to just be hot and narsty. Used to be, that it.

*sighs* I wish I had more feelings about this than the dread of dealing with the mess. It's just not right.
