5 of the big bags of candy from Costco - gone by 9:00 PM.
3 boxes of paperbacks, ditto - 8:15 PM.

Last trick or treaters? 9:45 ish or so. We gave them hot chocolate packets -

Temperature?

77 degrees at 10:00 PM. WTF. That has to be the warmest Halloween I can remember.

Quotes of the evening?

"Wow, a book! See you next year!" No particular variety of candy ever gets that response.
After handing a Star Trek novel to a ten-year-old (with Dad along) - "Look Dad!" "Oooh, a Star Trek book. We'll read that together."
And of course, the automatic "thank you! Wow! Thanks!" is always a hit.

And I get to purge the paperbacks and make room for new ones. How can you lose?

Need more coloring books. And could have given away more paperbacks, if I'd had them ready.

Four years ago today, folks.

I think I'm going to take my honey to the Local Place for dinner tonight. The budget, she is squealing loudly. But I think we can manage some haupia cake or something.

Linen, huh. Wonder how I can twist that into an Amazon gift certificate. (*winks* at [livejournal.com profile] yendi and [livejournal.com profile] shadesong.)

Books are a great idea!

If you want to stock up on coloring books, grab all the freebies given out at different events and also check 1.00 stores. I've got a stack for Alan that I think he's just about ready for!

(Or even cheaper, you could print coloring pages from the internet).

I may try the printing biz - but I had been scouring the $1 sales, and got as many as I could grab.

Did pretty well. But really, I could always give more away. That's the nature of the thing.

It was freezing here.

You gave out books? Awesome! Elayna would've loved that. Especially with her dairy allergy. She's never complained about not getting to eat half her candy. But it's really good when she does get lots of stuff to enjoy.

We got an Amazon gift certificate from friends, with the message "This is how you turn paper into DVDs..."

Dude, you have to try this. Seriously. It completely surprises the kids - and they love it. I was giving out trashy romance novels to the older girls, and they squealed. It was SO much fun.

I guess this is some kind of indication that I really do have a near-photographic memory - anything I hadn't read or touched in two years was fair game to give away. Just the ones I didn't think I'd be able to replace, were spared.

I think I still have some left in storage - this was the third year, and I still have room to purge. That's scary.

Happy anniversary! {{hugs}} I don't know why, but reading about the kids' reactions to getting books made me get all sappy.

I had some incredible pirates last night. The best one couldn't have been more than 16 months old - still being carried by dad, and it was perfect in every detail, including the hat.

I had a 2' Batman last night - and more Spidermans than I can count. VERY nice. SO CUTE.

The biggest problem is getting enough of them. Honest.

I think it is SO super cool that you gave books to trick-or-treaters! And they liked them too. :)

Happy Anniversary!

Bookcrossing gave me the initial idea - and it's been such a hit, I can't help it.

I would have absolutely loved to get books when trick-or-treating when I was a kid. I so wish we got trick-or-treaters up here, but you've seen our house, and the lay of our land, and it's not going to happen.

Especially not in the pouring rain. For once, we had no difficulty in keeping all the cats inside. They would look out the window and go back to the couch, unless they were following me around in the kitchen.

Happy, happy anniversary to the both of you, and may you enjoy many more together.

Thanks.

Pixie & Sprite's mother and sister got lots of attention as they liked to sit in the window and watch people go by. Their sister, especially, as she's gotten to be as orange as she is black - a very Halloweeny kitty.

Happy anniversary to the both of you!

Linen is very similar to papyrus, which is what the ancient Egyptians used for scrolls, the forefather of modern books.

Happy justifications!
