*ahem*

Time to ask.

Or just to state, for the record. Folks, I've had to do everything in five minute bites for three weeks now - bear with me.

What do I want? Hmm. I think I'd like to have something to look forward to, instead of having things I *must* find a way to get through - for starters. Having fun is great, seeing people is fab - but if I have to count every single penny and keep checking my watch? Not so fun.

Folks, I have plenty of room for new icons. Just a thought.

Also, I'm asking for the same thing this year I ask every year: If you smoke, quit. It's the gift that gives back. You really don't want to know, and you probably wouldn't believe me on this side of kicking the habit. Quit smoking - and yes, that means everything. Cloves count. Bah!

If you never smoked, I wuv bath fizzies.

But I think I'll add something this year.

Go shopping at your local thrift store. No kidding. Some of the things I can always use, that you can find there?

I give away books at Halloween - I always need more little kid books. Go nuts.
Quart canning jars, even if they're old? Nifty for other uses.
I can polish up anything brass or silver in a jiffy - and it twinkles so nice on the shelves.
There are never enough mugs. You see something cute, go for it.
I collect depression glass; clear or pink. Surprise me.
Find me a good book to read.
Ditto, cookbooks. I have a whole bookcase that has room for more.

This year, money is so tight, I can hear the squealing. Most thrift stores support some kind of philanthropic cause; it helps out twice this way. You don't contribute to the increase in Stuff in the world, and someone benefits from the support.

If you really, REALLY get stuck, there's an Amazon list on my info page, and I have a thinkgeek.com list as well. Ask, and I'll forward a copy to you.

You really want to know what I'd like the best? You. My house, Christmas Eve. Come on over.

Feel free to ask him - he was tickled pink with the thermos work gave him -

Heh. Looks like I need to find him a good mug too.

My idea for most gifts that didn't jump out and grab my attention: Coffee mug, tea, hot cocoa, a spoon, and a Rice Krispie Treat (premade as I have no time and very little kitchen)...

Of course, this means a CostCO trip that I will have to bug my mother on this coming weekend or whatever. =D

Mark me down for Christmas Eve please!

Your IKEA in Covina is the only one doing Christmas Trees this year. Want to help us out and get one?

Oh sure! You get some really nice history to ponder when you do that -

Oh, you collect depression glass too? So does my mom. I would, but I lack space to do so. Fun stuff!

Wish I could stop by Christmas eve. I have to work. Christmas day too. Ahh, life of a church musician. ;)

The house opens at 10:30 AM Christmas Eve - and closes when everyone goes home. C'mon. You can find an hour or two, can't ya?

I'm not a good enough person to quit just for you, but I am quitting now, under doctor's orders. And making the boyfriend do so also. So that's something.

If I get out to go thrifting, I'll keep you in mind! I love thrifting, but some of those thrift store aisles are a bit narrow for my wheels.

Hey, I'll take it. If you hadn't told me, who'd know?

In your neighborhood? Space is at such a premium, I'd be surprised that anyplace could accomodate wheels all that well. No worries!

I did quit. It's been some six weeks now since I smoked anything (I backslid one time, for one cigarette), something like ten since I had any cigarettes on my person.

Yes, Brain, but if we take on the capitalist governments of the world, what will become of the cheese?

Alas, it's a wee bit far, and we have to run interference on [livejournal.com profile] tabbifli's folks this year... but, yeah, I rather enjoy putting faces to icons..

Who's your favorite cookbook person? Alton? Emeril? Somebody completely different?

ext_20420: (Default)
From: [identity profile] kyburg.livejournal.com
I have both Emeril's and Alton's books, signed. I also have the Rex Stout (Nero Wolfe) cookbook, and Barbara Cartland's cookbook. All of the Frugal Gourmet's. Anne McCaffrey's "Serve It Forth" -

When I say I collect cookbooks, I don't mean maybe.

I like getting cookbooks from the little civic clubs from the communities where I travel - and I have a bunch of little books that came with frigerators and the like back in the '40s and '50s.

What I'm missing is an old version of the Joy of Cooking. I'd like a first edition or something before 1955, please.

There. Go for it.
