Very lucky, I am. Six years ago? I'd have to call the police to check on Cliff at home because I was an hour's commute by train, plus the drive from the station home before I could get to him. And he was so much sicker, it's an order of magnitude.

I'd attribute it to hard work, but I'd also have to say I had something like this on my wish list for years before it could happen. I just never forgot.

I won't ever be famous, but at least I'll have some of the "creature comforts" I missed in the years prior -

It's a little thing. But..oh so huge. I can get home inside of 20 minutes. For real.

That's worth a few bucks to me.

Only twice in my life have I ever been able to do that. Once was an abortive contract, here in Port Orchard; the other time was the year and a half I spent working for Backroads Music, twenty minutes *walk* from the Corte Madera house.

Anything I take now is going to be at least an hour away, probably more.

Even though the cost of rent guts us every month, the mental health benefits -- that is, never spending more than 20 minutes on a commute to work -- pay for it tenfold. There are much cheaper houses available in Leander and Round Rock, but there's no way in hell I'm going back to wasting 2 hours a day in a car.
