This year, I managed to snag four bags - one non-food, three food types. Can't believe my luck -

This is what the non-food bag looked like - see the furoshiki on the top? Just the beginning!

This is the non-food bag. It's a haul and a half - including both shampoo and conditioner, tons of stationery goods, a set of dishes, a really cool picture frame, kitchen goods...so much fun. This is the stuff you normally pass up because you can't justify the $5 or $10 here or there...and all of it for $20. They were gone in fifteen minutes this morning - and I got in line an hour early and counted myself lucky!

The three food bags? $20 each, but each one contained a rice coupon - that's good for a 20 lb. bag of rice, each, valid until March 31st. Then you dug into the bag. Curry sauce, soy sauce, tubes of wasabi and ginger, furikake, soup mixes, cans of tuna, jam (I got two jars of strawberry and one of cranberry, how cool is that?) chews, cookies, Pocky, snacks -

I so love my neighborhood.

And it's a great way to start off the new year. Lunch? Char si bao. Oh yeaaaaah.

Happy new year! mmm, char su bao!

I should see if my locals do those some year, although the odds of me being up that early are slim.

Honestly? The thing that made me sqwee the most is the pretty tortie kitty. I have a soft sport for torties. :)

Although instant udon soup mix sounds like a good idea for lunch.

I will definitely have to check Marukai out. I want to get to more of the stores over there, just don't know which ones are the good ones to go to. Thanks!

Even if you don't buy anything, it's worth the trip. Just watch it, 'cuz I think they know when you are least resistant, they spring suprises on you like deciding to sell a couple of the display dolls, stuff like that. It's dangerous.

Go south on Crenshaw from the 405 freeway, left on 208th st, the left again at Beech, and I park in the first parking lot on the right.
