The name of the agency we met with today was Heartsent. The biggest issue I see today is paying for it all. I have to give them credit - they don't post the fees involved on the website. They do discuss them as soon as you are ready to talk about them - which I think shows a bit more class. Everyone knows the process costs money. You aren't here if you haven't discovered that having children outside of getting pregnant costs money - lots of it.

But we also discovered that our experience with DCFS wasn't unusual - far from it. One couple had spent fifteen years with them and didn't manage a placement.

We get through this process? And we've already been told it isn't as demanding - we're in. We will have a child at the end of it.

How much money? Think of us buying another car. About that much.

Where? I can think of two to three places to pull from - and most of that will have to wait until Monday.

Suffice it to say, I'm going to be looking for things to raffle/auction off to raise funds.

And it was a very nice afternoon.

WRT DCFS: Argh! Makes me want to do things that they'd lock me up for.

But....

we're in.

WOOT!!!!!

Count me in on the raffle. :)

I feel so sorry for all the kids waiting patiently for a new loving family while the DCFS dicks around....

Heartsent looks a very well organised thing, fingers crossed all goes well, and yep, happy to help with fundraising efforts. Do you have some ideas on which country as yet, or is it too soon to be thinking that specifically?

I'll be keeping you in my thoughts, hon. I was lucky...mine was an 'in-family' adoption, so my folks didn't have to go through all the red tape. *hugs* I've always been proud to be a 'chosen child'.

I'd also be happy to help.

I'm so glad things are finally moving forward. I can't believe DCFS was trying so hard to keep deserving kids out of a loving home. asshats.

I live about a mile away from the headquarters of Wendy's, so the Dave Thomas Foundation popped right into my head when I read this. They don't, unfortunately, offer grants to assist adoptive parents, but they do have a list of organizations that do (http://www.davethomasfoundationforadoption.org/html/considering/financial.asp"). Hope it helps.

That link isn't clickable, but I was able to drill it back - *nods* - yes, very useful. Going to let my fingers do the walking tomorrow. You don't ask, you don't get -

I can't think of a better time to do it - the thought of you and Charles going with us to China to start our families together popped into my head and nothing sounded so right in my life.

Check the links from the comment posted above - find the money someplace. This is looking like an incredibly good option.

Look at your quilt-making stash - that's what I'm doing today. I think I may make a quilt to raffle from that cache of silk swatches I've been hoarding since my days at Superba....

Time to look at what I can sell

I need to check into this, definitely. I need to find out, first, if we're talking about sell-the-art money, sell-the-car money, or sell-the-Hill money.

I hesitate to part with the Disney serigraphs for this, as Bob and I bought them on our honeymoon specifically to decorate a child's room someday, but if selling the serigraphs helps to bring that child home to us, I'll do it. I need to call up Circle Gallery and find out what the current valuation is. We have a complete set of the 1989 serigraphs (a dozen different ones), identically numbered, framed and still wrapped in their original gallery wrappings. Of the edition of 9500, the first thousand numbers were sold as complete sets.

Good luck. My friends who adopted were lucky that grandparents helped with the costs - but they are wonderful parents to their son and he is so lucky to have them.

Let me know when you have anything to sell.
