Feb. 24th, 2006 03:01 pmGod, it is no fun being brain-dead. And being chased by angry mobs with pitchforks. Honestly.
We sat down to do the family finances last night - and very innocently, I asked - "Gee, I wonder what the status on the car policy is - you can't find a copy of the new policy, and I don't have record of getting a bill."
..
Now mind, it's almost March, and the policy cycles every six months - I really do know better - but. I've only had the same policy for 31 years. They wouldn't - not without a phone call, at least. Right?
Nah.
Not anymore. Don't ask me why, but they terminated it in January - I tried to pay it last night, and couldn't.
Thus ensues the mad dash today to get re-insured. If you had guessed that the car registrations hadn't been done either, you'd be dead in the black. They were only due - not OMG NO - but still, to get insured? You had to have your registration up to date. To get the registration up to date? You got it. You needed proof of insurance.
We had to have the cars inspected this morning, pay the deposit for the policy, rush over to AAA to get the registrations done (having a faxed copy of the new policy in hand, once the inspection was done), then fax the registrations back to the insurance company, then get the signature page to sign, fax that back -
All before 4:00 PM today. I started at 8:30 AM.
It's done, but guess what else was today?
DCFS interview at 12:15 PM.
I made it. I got the signature pages back by 2:00 PM today, thank you very much. Flying Monkeys R US.
But holy merde, I need a beer.

Date: 2006-02-25 06:15 am (UTC)*le sigh* No policy. No bill. No kidding.
That's been fixed, but even the agent local to me here (my policy is written by the same office that wrote me back when I was 16 - in Sun City. Yaup) said it was a very unfair thing to put me though the wringer like they did. "I'd have you do this after the fact, if at all." I think was what the guy said.
Nice guy. Anyone want a policy written in the South Bay, come ask me for the name and number. He was a champ.

Date: 2006-02-26 03:53 pm (UTC)Hey. Think about this for a moment. I've had them for over 31 years (add in the years Mom was covered by them...I was an add-on to her policy way back when) - I must have had stellar experiences with them over that many years to put up with this stuff, right?
Well, better than anyone else I know using any other company. And that's a fact.
Oh, and don't forget - I pay them to do this to me. *nods* Yup.

Date: 2006-02-27 06:10 pm (UTC)I'm currently reasonably happy with Geico, but who knows whether that might change for some unforseen reason. I was rather impressed, however, with the fact that last time I had another company (Progressive) drop me (without even bothering to send me an overdue notice, of course, and I didn't get the cancellation notice in the mail until I'd been driving around on an expired policy for two weeks already), Geico was willing to set me up with a valid insurance policy I could drive around on for a couple of days before they even got any paperwork back from me, which gave me a little bit of time to work the rest of it around my busy life at the time..
