I'm going to plug this book again:

Because, well - it has a lot of good ideas on how to cut back on gasoline use, among other things. Little things that you probably didn't have much awareness of.

I've decided it's time to really do some close watching on where the gas gets used - and remove those things when I can, starting small.

Beginning today, no more drive-throughs. Whether it is Starbucks, McDonalds, whatever. We're going to stop, and go in. No more sitting in the drive-thru lane with the engine running.

That's today.

Makes sense...

Half the time I'm not sure drive-thrus save any time anyway - especially during off-peak times, the inside lines are half-empty, while the drive-thrus tend to be full of people trying to get their orders understood via the barely-functional intercoms.

Eh, I'm all for that resolution.

I've never, ever liked drivethroughs. My husband *pokes above* can attest to my bitching "Why can't we just stop and go in?" unless we are clearly in a hurry.

Part of it is that I'm just too damn picky about food and food choices to begin with. I need time to make up my mind, and drive-throughs hardly allow for that. They're for people who always know what they want, and often (boringly) eat the same thing over and over. Myself, I don't even know if I'm just gonna go back on the decision to eat there in the first place within 5 minutes, so parking and going in gives me a required backing out option.

Also, you can tell some things about how a franchised operation is run (i.e., shoddily, potential food poisoning quotient) better from entering the premises and looking around, that are going to be difficult to extrapolate from a drive-thru window (i.e., they're generally the better maintained part of the operation). =P

I feel somewhat the same, then again, getting two small kids out of the car and back it, I'll take the drive through.

Ugh. I did drive through 2x today (once for coffee and donut and the other time for Taco Bell). In all fairness, I am sick - and I normally last 2 weeks on a fill up due to not driving much.

But I feel much better when I stop and walk into the local bagel place for a coffee etc in the AM.
