I'm going to plug this book again:

Because, well - it has a lot of good ideas on how to cut back on gasoline use, among other things. Little things that you probably didn't have much awareness of.
I've decided it's time to really do some close watching on where the gas gets used - and remove those things when I can, starting small.
Beginning today, no more drive-throughs. Whether it is Starbucks, McDonalds, whatever. We're going to stop, and go in. No more sitting in the drive-thru lane with the engine running.
That's today.

Makes sense...

Date: 2006-04-27 05:14 pm (UTC)I've never, ever liked drivethroughs. My husband *pokes above* can attest to my bitching "Why can't we just stop and go in?" unless we are clearly in a hurry.
Part of it is that I'm just too damn picky about food and food choices to begin with. I need time to make up my mind, and drive-throughs hardly allow for that. They're for people who always know what they want, and often (boringly) eat the same thing over and over. Myself, I don't even know if I'm just gonna go back on the decision to eat there in the first place within 5 minutes, so parking and going in gives me a required backing out option.
Also, you can tell some things about how a franchised operation is run (i.e., shoddily, potential food poisoning quotient) better from entering the premises and looking around, that are going to be difficult to extrapolate from a drive-thru window (i.e., they're generally the better maintained part of the operation). =P
