Because there's no whining.

Hello Self. Welcome back to size 12 pants. It's been a while, and it's a bit of a shock, but yanno? It's official. The size 16's are outta here, and about time. They were ancient, tried and true and about ten years old. Don't think it would even be fair to hand them down, they're that worn out.

Good thing you ordered a pair of 12's with Jim's pant order last month. Just to try, mind - but it looks like you need to go right back and get four more pair.

..

Now, this is about as small as I expect that part of the body to go - even when I was fifty pounds smaller, the ass didn't change all that much. I like pants with higher waists as well, which means I have to order them. (Asscrack pants? No thank you. I sit too much.)

I'm coming up on my 90 day recheck of bloodwork - wonder if Unilab will send the current weight along with the results to Doctor. I may just have to go in to see his face.

(He wanted 30 lbs off. If I read my scale correctly, I might be halfway there this week.)

Boy, that was fast.

Congrats! I think we traded... No longer size 12, I now wear a size 16. :P That's why we've stopped buying sodas. That's why when we saw a Tai Chi DVD for $1 at WalMart, we got it, because it's slower movements, maybe I can do it.

Portion control.
Portion control.
Portion control.

Figure it out anyway you wish, but that's key.

I've had years of experience (married to a type 1 for 15 years, Mom did WW when I was a kid, etc.), but I also took a couple of extra steps (charting, getting more education, etc.) and it's working beautifully.

Get this. I've stepped inside the gym ONCE this entire period. And no, I didn't think it made all that much difference. When all the weight is off, I may do something more in that regard, but so far, it hasn't been required for good results.

So how did you control your appetite between meals then, if you're only eating small portions?

Pick stuff that you can have in enough quantity to stay satisfied.

Say, for example - fresh celery, carrots and salad greens? Those are so negliable, you can just about as much as you can sit for. Quarter-pounders with cheese, not so much.

Keep the salad dressing off, or to a bare minimum - even consider getting one of those salad sprays instead of the bottled dressing - you'll get and stay full. Trust me.

When it's something fatty, like cheese or beef? Cut the portions waaaay back. Don't fry anything - bake it, microwave it or grill it on a George Foreman. Pump up the fiber, cut out the unneeded fats.

Get a little education - there are a couple of really good resources. Weight Watchers is one place - if you don't want to learn to portion, just pay Jenny Craig to do the same thing. (And then put all the weight back on when you stop. Boo hiss. :P)

Right. I was hoping for something I hadn't heard before that would actually work for me, but thanks for sharing :)

I should have an addendum to that - for example. Tonight's dinner?

CSA box is in - and there is fresh romaine in it. Last night was some very tasty loin tips that I grilled with a little teriyaki, and there were leftovers. I also baked bunch of potatoes.

I think I'll take one of the little loin steaks, chop it up and serve it in a romaine and tomato salad, clean out a baked potato, toast the skins and melt a slice of Kraft singles over it. (And warm up the mashed potatoes on the side.) I think I could probably even have one of those frozen fruit bars for dessert. If I'm careful, I can add a bit of salad dressing - but if I salt, pepper and toss the salad with the steak still warm and oozing juices, I probably won't need it.

And I can go back for seconds on the lettuce and tomato salad. Tomatoes were in the box today, and they smell really yummy.

Hey, last night I had a whole box of Pocky as a snack before going to bed. What doesn't work about that?

I don't like Pocky? :)

Then...what is that you want?

*loaded question*

I want a way to lose weight that will work. Eating tons of food that I hate isn't going to work as a long term option.

Then don't do it.

The best part of the plan I'm on is that I get to choose. And as time-tested as it is, it sounds like you're cutting way back on the stuff you can't live without...but you find out pretty quickly that's not the case.

At this vantage point, I'm looking back and wondering how I managed to be only 30 lbs over....

I'm not really doing anything concious. Mostly because I don't believe that weight loss works, for me anyway. I was just wondering what worked for you, and if it would work for me. Guess I'll keep searching, or hope that someday weight loss surgery becomes standard medical procedure.
