Honestly.

Don't take my word for it. The ads are on this site. Go look for yourself.

In particular, pay attention to the ones with women in them.

WTF.

So yeah. I dropped a note to the company (In Carrollton, TX. Why does the TX not surprise me? That's all kinds of wrong.) and advised them of where I saw the spots, when and general ire...and advised them I have no intention of stepping foot into their stores for the foreseeable future.

Of course, maybe I used too many syllables. Think it'll sink in anytime soon?

SO NOT FUNNY.

(And deep-fried macaroni and cheese? The HELL?)

(And deep-fried macaroni and cheese? The HELL?)

FWIW, Alton Brown has a deep fried mac and cheese recipe.

The ads, though, are obnoxious.

Having met Alton Brown once (he's just a smidge taller and no wider) - I seriously doubt he makes a regular habit of eating his own cooking - well, in generous portions, for certain.

The other stuff looked no better. HELLO, MAY I HAVE SOME FOOD WITH MY FAT PLEASE?

Oh, Alton admits with a lot of his stuff that he doesn't eat it regularly, which is why he's such an enthusiast of using real butter, sugar, etc. If you're going to make things, make it right.

I suspect that Alton's main diet is pretty healthy.

It wouldn't be hard - he tends to keep it simple, with few frills. A reasonable amount of portion control and voila.

well, you know now, they do sponsor the My Space Secret Shows, so I guess they are going more for the young adult male only eat high fat content crowd....

Y'know, assuming that any group is that stupid is offensive (and unfair) to them as well.

And you wonder where they get it. *points* There's your answer.

Ads are annoying but not offensive. They are each highly over sterotyped people. (shrugs).

They're offensive. Particularly when you realize that they are some of the few female "images" present in hours and hours of television.

There were plenty of good spots on during the games Sunday - but this was ridiculous. I just sat there with my mouth open, it was so bad.

Hey, I guess the guy talking big about being threatening was okay, too? Gimme a break. Try comparing those with the Southwest Airlines spots - they know good from shite, lemme tellya.

completely gross food. If ya want I'll drive by their headquarters and throw some eggs at their front door for ya.

No no - we throw eggs at people who piss us off. I'm willing to gamble these guys just thought they were funny, give them the benefit of the doubt.

Go in, tell them how stupid those spots were - and add that the food is gross - and leave. I'd be happier with that. *chuckles* I'm wondering what kind of response I'm going to get from them. I did have to give my address, after all.

It's Sis' favorite. Loud, noisy - huge portions, typical Texas.

Uh uh. Not gonna anymore.

Several of us tried the fried mac and cheese at Fridays the other night and it's actually pretty good (thoroughly unhealthy, of course, but it tastes good).

I hadn't seen the ads, though.. those are pretty dumb.

Ok, really really dumb. But really, if you find those offensive, you're being seriously oversensitive, in my opinion. Frankly, I really hadn't pegged you for the sort of person who says "ooh, it's got a woman in it, so it must be making a social commentary about all women everywhere and I need to go find something to be offended at!" but that's really what this post sounds like.

It's pretty obvious to me that these ads are deliberately poking fun at stereotypes of outdated people (hippie chick, valley girl, etc). All (or almost all) of these character types are well-known stereotypes from days gone by (which I think was supposed to be the point), and they're all portrayed as out-of-the-loop, unusual, and undesirable, clearly not saying that this is how most people are (if anything, the opposite). I see no attempt to imply that this is what the real world is like or should be like, and the only reason I could see why somebody would read something like that into it is if they're deliberately looking for something to be offended at.

Yeah, yeah - I'm oversensitive. One of the few times I actually see a female face and it's spelling asparagus with a U. Yeah, sure.

The point is - it's just not funny. And I think at some point, you have to stand for something - or you'll stand for anything. This is just plain ridiculous - and insulting to anyone. You can do good ads - and they have - but this ain't it, kid.

The ads are dumb, but they all play on these people (male and female) being dumb and stuck in the 80's. I don't think they're particularly sexist.

The appetizers do look delicious though.

The guy is boasting how threatening his friends are - and the women can't spell and look too stupid to live.

This is insulting to both sexes. D'ya think the roles would work if reversed? That's the litmus test.

I'm sorry I don't find it offensive. I do find it stupid, but not offensive. Then again, I've always had a thing for un-PC humour.

I only saw those adds once, and my only comment to it was "As if mac and cheese wasn't unhealthy to begin with". I mean, I'm a fan of mac and cheese, but I'd rather make my own, as my own recipe at least allows me to control exactly how much grease goes into them, and each serving is not large enough to feed a family of 4. And seriously, if you don't have time to make your own mac and cheese, chances are that you're never paying attention to what you eat, which is bad.

That was the tip of the iceberg. I mean, really nice green beans? Okay - yes, I've had those fried - but they put a layer of breading on top of it. That only works in tempura, and not for a whole plateful.

Then the deep dish o' melted cheese...uh, someone say coronary here? Yeesh.

I think the idea is that Hardee's (of 1500 calories burger fame) has cornered the "our food could give you a coronary right on our premises" market long enough. Here comes competition!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I just don't get the disgusting things some companies will do (breaded mac and cheese, triple bacon cheeseburgers, fried eggs on top of hamburgers), and people will sheepishly eat. My husband jokes that it's because I'm a foreigner, and by definition eating food is a class statement to me, not something you do when you're bored.

I was born and raised here, and I don't get it either. Don't think it's a foreigner-thang.

I mean, I do use my head on what goes in my mouth, after all. *looks at that statement, stammers and blushes furiously*
