Seen the trailer for 'Jesus Camp' yet?

Uh huh.

Hey.

I grew up in Hemet and thought these guys were nutjobs all on my own. I strongly suspect I'm not the only one or unusual in the least.

I don't think I need to tell you that just because they say they're for Jesus, that they are? I mean, say what you like about [livejournal.com profile] bitpig, but he gave me a very good refresher course on how the whole thing works.

See. You use message - not force - when you're for Jesus. These guys seem to think that brainwashing is good because their enemies do it! Yeah! RIGHT ON!

You can put them right up there with these nutjobs.

Also, the one thing that really jumped out at me? Where were all the parents? I mean, the ratio of kids to adults in the scenes you could see? I don't think public schools accept a ratio that high - do they?

I'll go out on a limb here.

These aren't the Christians you've been looking for. You can go about your business. Move along.

Ditto here. Not with my camp experience (which was 99% positive) but with some of the shit I saw in college.

I saw it, and I had to look away as it went on. It was just too painful to watch. It seemed as if the kids were just play-acting along, but the fact that the adults expect them to mean what they say? All kinds of horrible, really.

"Seen the trailer for 'Jesus Camp' yet?"

Yup I saw it! I had to watch it three times in order to take in the apparent insanity in bite size chunks. I'm still not sure whether the producers of the film are totally unbiased and presenting a completley neutral view. I doubt its even possible to film a documentary without personal views of the cameraman/director/producer etc being reflected in the final product (even unintentionally).

I have a pretty thick skin but i was horrified, the patently obvious brainwashing, the mental torture of the kids etc etc etc. I ain't even sure of the right words to describe it right now. I shall return to this later on.

ah yeah, the programming begins.

funny how the raised fists in the air reminded me of another time and group that saluted their Fuehrer in a similar fashion...

After seeing the first few minutes of the trailer my first thoughts were "Hitler Youth Movement" !

Perhaps I am a nutcase, but that seems to be about as Christian as Hitler was.
Evil done in the name if Good is STILL EVIL. That looks to me to be very evil, I don't care What they call it.

"I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so," Hitler, 1941.

"Therefore, I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews, I am doing the Lord's Work." Hitler, Mein Kampf.

Sadly, yes, they are as Christian as Hitler.

Eh, I remember religious camp when I was a kid, and it wasn't all that bad. It was like vacation Bible school, only you got to sleep over with all of your friends. (I didn't really have friends outside of church.)

Like anything having to do with religion, there are good ones and bad ones. It's the bad ones you have to watch out for.

The parents aren't there, but if what I experienced is anything to go by, the camp counsilors are there, just standing on the sidelines, out of camera-shot.

Christian? Where?

I'm trying to find the Christianity in these guys. I just can't.

I got through about a minute of it, and I was paying a bit more attention to who the quotes were from, praising the film.

Little nobody publications that are wholly supported by the jingo-istic, One True Way-types. Meaning, themselves.

I was disgusted.
