Friday was so bad, I was tempted to post Alvin and the Chipmunks mp3s. I still might.

Talk me out of it.

However, more and more, I think I'm beginning to get the idea and content together for a panel for next year's AOD - "What, no Dragonball? - What did you watch on television as a kid?"

Me? I get the Sixties.

A ton of Tetzuka.
The Beatles (no, not Yellow Submarine...the twenty minute quickies that included a song in each one...even the lame ones)
Romper Room (oh GHAD those of you who got to watch Sesame Street...you lucky ones....)
Alvin & the Chipmunks

...and all the Hanna Barbera you could want. You have to wonder why I'm not even more twisted.

In other news, I wish I had enough energy to complain. It's been THAT busy.

Do not post Alvin and Chipmunks, or I may end up making an AMV to it... sigh...

Only if you show me how - yeah, there are some killer things to be done with it. If that stuff is the solution to Really Bad Days, there's a reason!

In the 60s you also had Adam West, Jay Ward, and Col. Klink.

I know that I'm never going to have children, and that my sister is unlikely to as well, but I've started buying my childhood on DVD just to make sure that I can share the joy in the future.

Chipmunks! (Do you have the Time Warp by them? *EG*)

Best part of Saturday Morning for me was MEEP MEEP! PBPBPBPBPBPBP!!!!

(Roadrunner was my Hero.)

It sort of shattered an illusion for me many years later when I learned that Bob Keeshan hated that show... OTOH, it did *not* shatter any illusions but explained a great deal to learn that Fred Rogers was an ordained minister, and the show was his calling...

Locally, it was "Peter Boyle (Senior)," "Happy the Clown," "Pixanne," "Sally Starr," "Rex Ranger," and "Gene London."

Semi-locally, we had "Wonderama" on Sundays. I was just old enough to cringe at the Banana Splits.

The funniest "Romper Room" I ever saw was out of Omaha, NE. I was driving cross-country in 1981 and this was on in the morning. Since it was live TV, there was no way to censor the kids, who were...precocious. My then-husband and I were watching a show that could only have been devised by someone with a really warped sense of humor who wanted to see what they could get away with.

Miss What's-Her-Name: What rhymes with "ape?"

Little Girl: RAPE!

Miss WHN: That's right, GRAPE! What rhymes with "corn?"

Little Boy: PORN!

Miss WHN: That's right, HORN! What rhymes with "truck?"

Another Little Boy: FUCK!

Miss WHN: That's right, DUCK!

We were laughing so hard our sides hurt.

I think they started censoring it by the time I was watching a few years later (yes, I grew up in Omaha. Yes, I sort of remember Romper Room. Yes, either my sister or I did have a toy of one of the puppets. No, I can't remember a damn thing about it otherwise.)

Q: Did they censor it by pre-taping it or some other way?

I don't know, I was three or four when watching it, but I think I outgrew it vs. being forcibly removed by parental outrage. I think it aired on channel 10 (which was a rebroadcaster of channel 3 but for Lincoln instead of Omaha and with a slightly different lineup).

I also remember when Fox 42 started up. That was fecking awesome, especially since they had reruns of Adam West Batman every afternoon and Tim Curry voicing Captain Hook in Peter Pan and the Pirates (where the hell is THAT on DVD? And Eek the Cat?).
