Okay, I was good and ready to tell John Kerry to STFU. I mean, handing ammunition over like he did was just plain stupid....then he followed it up.

“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they’re crazy,” Mr. Kerry said in a statement. “I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.”

“I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed-suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq,” Mr. Kerry went on. “It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.”

At a televised news conference today in Seattle, Mr. Kerry said he was “disgusted” by the Republican attacks, which he noted were coming at the end of a bloody month in Iraq. “Sadly, this is the best this administration can do,” he said.

Watch how many news outlets don't report this.

And maybe I should count how many "In Memory Of..." decals I spot on my drive home tonight. I should.

The media won't report this part of his comment because their bosses don't know the truth any better than the Whitehouse.

"...who never can be found to serve in war..."

Point.

"...but love to attack those who did..."

If it's a valid criticism, service in the military should not absolve one of questioning commentary.

I'm not saying that the attacks are warranted. I've not seen any of them. I don't watch TV much these days.

I guess I'm saying that while I agree in general with the tone of his arguement, I'd like some context with which to frame Mr. Kerry's statements.

I'm still at work pulling OT, so I can't dig around for quotes, but to give you an idea, all of the criticisms that has been directed at Kerry were presented as a point of fact and not like that of an opinion. The criticisms also usually comes from those whom he mentioned as having never served. It's effectively like Gary the gardener lecturing Dan the doctor on how to best treat an open chest wound.

If the offending criticisms were presented as opinions and not fact, then there wouldn't be a problem.

This makes me so furious.

WHERE THE FUCK WAS ALL THIS OUTRAGE AND BACKBONE DURING THE GODDAMN 2004 CAMPAIGN???!!!!!

If he'd said stuff like this back then, it would have been covered and he would have been elected.

Grr.

No, they mention all he said on the news... not leaving much out. But what he said was stupid to begin with... pretty much saying if your stupid, your going to the military. Hey may have not meant that, but that how it came out as saying and he should quickly apologize.

This was a simple case of "Foot in Mouth."

Apology, no apology, I'm still one highly irate veteran of 2 wars. He's going to have to do a lot to make up for this.

Too damn easy to make fun of him without knowing a damn thing about the truth. Or caring what it was, frankly.

Don't forget - I'm a graduate of that high school in Hemet that allows all the free military foo-foo they can bring in - and allow them to snow every kid they can grab - but they won't allow me, a legitimate reporter or irate parents the same access.

He should have said something to the effect of "get to college on your OWN DIME" - or go to Iraq. Frankly, you ask the families of the kids they're killing (and I said this because IMHO it's been nothing but needless killing) why they signed up, and you'll hear something about the money somewhere in it. For college, to feed families - the whole nine yards.

"Your leaders don't care what happens to you - get a good education or be a victim of their policies" - that's what I heard.

The follow up made a whole lot more sense - but of course, nobody wants to hear it.
