It may be a well-hidden secret - or just an oversight on my part - but I love advent calendars. You can imagine my glee at discovering some actually had chocolate in them - oh, when I was 28 or so. Seriously.
Some folks are doing drabbles, Bishink will be doing their website thingie - I could step away from this post and try to find some more examples (I think the perl mongers used to do one, once upon a time...), but you get the gist.
25 days. 25 things. A surprise every day. How can you lose?
I missed the
yuletide sign up - and frankly, asking me to write coherently and well at this time of year will only garner you a blank stare and probably some tears. So, no - not doing the drabble thingie.
But I can do what I can promise to do...I can find stuff. Stuff you probably couldn't find anywhere else.
I'll aim for that.
Music. Recipes. Trivia. Maybe the population count for Outer Mongolia. A picture. Games. Freebies. Patterns (I have quite the collection for both doll clothes, and other knitty/crochety things. You just never saw that side of me).
One thing a day, every day, until Christmas.
You have suggestions or desires? Comment and let me know.
(And as they say, let the games begin!)

Date: 2006-12-01 08:20 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, the only thing I can think of that I'd really like help in finding (well, aside from the obvious) is probably difficult enough it's not appropriate for this sort of thing, but oh well.
(it's an animated short I saw many many years ago on PBS and have never been able to find anywhere ever after)

Date: 2006-12-19 01:36 am (UTC)Anyway, probably a bit late for the advent thing, but if you're interested in a general challenge, I'd be amazed and in your debt if you were able to find this thing somewhere.
There was an old animated short which I saw a few times on PBS (KTEH channel 54 in San Jose) as filler between programs. This must have been somewhere around 15-20 years ago now, I guess.. Sheesh, was it that long ago? I'm getting old..
Anyway, the short featured a dragon walking along, and he comes across a tree, and in the tree, on a branch, is a happy little bird. The bird goes TweetTWEETtweetweetTWEET in its little song, and then tells the dragon "Sing with me!", and the dragon says "Ok!"
So the bird goes TweetTWEETtweetweetTWEET again, and the dragon goes "La! La! La! *FOOM*" and a big burst of flame consumes the bird, which promptly falls to the ground charred to a cinder. As I remember, the dragon looked sorta dismayed/embarrassed and sorta slipped out of the picture as quietly as possible...
I know of one other person who remembers this thing (my sister) because she happened to be around at the time and saw it at the same time I did. Occasionally we will quote "La! La! La! *FOOM*" at each other, but it's become a very in-joke, and it's really so cool it shouldn't be one. Unfortunately, I have no idea who did it or where it came from. I don't even remember that well exactly what time frame it was on channel 54, just that it was at a time when I still watched it regularly, which was a long time ago. I have a vague recollection that it came out about the same time as the "Bambi vs. Godzilla" short, which wasn't nearly as funny but got a lot more airplay.
And I've never seen it anywhere since.
How's that for a challenge? :)
